disgraced preachers
I put this in here because the world holds these men to a higher standard than they hold themselves. Is a preacher more than a man? Yes, generally, he is touched by God; but can he fail? Yes he can. Look at the newest one, Ted Haggard. Admits to buying crack and having sex with another man. Not very preacher-like, but is it my job to judge him? No it is not. God has a pretty good handle on ole Ted. He knows what to do with him.
Yet there are those who will go out to crucify this man for the fact that he is a preacher and he acted immorally. I think he did the right thing by stepping away from the pulpit. But he will be crucified by the media and the world for what he has done. I hope if I do something like that, the world don't find out so I just have to handle what's around me and not the whole world.

Re: disgraced preachers
A Difficult situation; Anyone in "Public Life" Should live to the highest standards; But we are all human, we all make mistakes; It's just when a High-Profile public figure is involved we all get to hear about it;
Newspapers are there to "Sell Papers"; TV/Radio are after the Highest "Ratings" so Public figures get hit hard.
It's a good Job God sees their "Heart" and doesn't have to bother with Newspaper Sales, Or TV Ratings !!!.

Re: disgraced preachers
From what I understand the English papers can be even more nasty than the American ones. I would have to defer to you on that point seeing as I am not, nor have never, been in England. I would like to visit, though.

Re: disgraced preachers
Good thing the Lord has the ability to forgive Ted. I don't think he'll be getting any preaching jobs any time soon. I think the lesson we can all get from this is how important our credibility is, and what it means to our witness for the cause of Christ.

Re: disgraced preachers
I've seen this sort of thing happen more than a few times before. One way we probably all fall short is in failing to pray for those who have a positiion of leadership, whether they be our relatives, our pastors, deacons, and Bible teachers, or our government officals. We need to pray daily for these leaders to be strong in the Lord and to resist the devil.
