The Jesus Trick

The “Jesus” Trick.

Oneness Pentecostals will certainly deny it, but their theology is extremely close to the Watchtower’s Christology, because it also effectively teaches two Gods. The first God of Oneness theology is called ‘Jesus’ but he’s really God the Father existing as Jesus, and possesses every single divine attributes; being the creator, omnipresent, eternal and immutable etc. However the second god, whom they confusingly also call ‘Jesus,’ but whom we might refer to Jesus the Son, to distinguish him from the Father (Jesus the Father), doesn’t possess any divine attributes whatsoever, and so is essentially just another part of the creation, and so isn’t the creator (Hebrews 1:2, or Omnipresent (John 14:23) or eternal and immutable (Hebrews 13:8).

The confusion arises simply over the term ‘Jesus,’ which they apply to both (Jesus) the Father and also to (Jesus) the Son, thereby allowing them to answer any of your direct questions about the Son, by giving the vague reply ‘Jesus’ as the answer to every single one of your questions. However, this Jesus of whom they’ll honour as God in their reply, isn’t (Jesus) the Son, but is instead Jesus the Father. So should you point out to a Oneness Pentecostal that the Son is the creator (Colossians 1:13-18), they’ll immediately agree very enthusiastically with you, but then reply claiming that Jesus is the creator, by which they certainly don’t mean that Son is our creator, as they deny and despise that truth! So the statement that ‘Jesus is our creator’ means to them that ‘God the Father’ whose called ‘Jesus’ in Oneness theology, is our creator.

I call this deceptive technique the ‘Jesus Trick,’ for by using the word ‘Jesus’ in any reply to your questions about the Son, Oneness Pentecostals can always give a seemingly god-honouring reply, whilst at the same time completely refusing to give you a straightforward and honest answer. If you look a Oneness Pentecostal directly in the eye and ask him if Jesus the Son of God is the eternal I AM (ego eimi) re John 8:24-28. He’ll look straight back at you as he denies that truth, by stating to your face that Jesus is the eternal I AM, but by which he’s only affirming the deity of God the Father. However, no cult except for the Mormons has ever denied that God the Father is YHWH. Salvation is in accepting that the Son is YHWH, and so Oneness is a brilliantly deceptive way of hoodwinking gullible Trinitarians, because in reality, they only ever honour God the Father as YHWH, this is a heresy which most of the other cults; Watchtower, Unitarians, Christadelphians, Way International also teach.
