Todd Bentley: The newest in an increasingly long line of Word-Faith teachers

Recently, a friend invited me to a crusade in Los Angeles, featuring Todd Bentley. My friend waited until the very last minute to invite me, and I wasn't able to go because of the limits of the local public transportation (thankfully). However, I did watch the services online; and I wasn't surprised by the heresy I saw. Truly, Mr. Bentley is just another Health-Wealth-Prosperity teacher who is being used by the enemy to lead as many people as possible away from the Truth. He probably doesn't even realize that he is delusional.

Anyway, here are links to videos about him:

Re: Todd Bentley: The newest in an increasingly long line of Word-Faith teachers

Todd Bentley is suing his wife for divorce.

Todd Bentley got most of his tattoos and piercings after being saved.

Todd Bentley watches far too much Wrestlemania and repeats a lot of the moves and terminology from that in his meetings.

Todd Bentley went through a period of deep depression after being saved which he calls "a dark night of the soul," or "a time of pruning," rather than the deep depression that it actually was; and he encourages as many people as possible to go through the same thing.

Todd Bentley claims to have seen Jesus Christ face-to-face and lived. No one can see Jesus Christ face-to-face in their mortal body and live.

Todd Bentley encourages every one in the audience of his mass meetings to impart spiritual gifts to everyone around them. This is dangerous because a person doesn't know what kind of past the people around him/her have; and people could be receiving spirits of anti-Christ through that kind of impartation.

Todd Bentley kicked a man in the gut when the man came forward for prayer (the man has stage 4 colon cancer). Todd Bentley claimed God told him to kick the man in the gut.

Todd Bentley kicked an elderly woman in the nose with his biker boot when she came forward for prayer; and he claimed that God told him to kick her.

Todd Bentley leg-dropped the pastor of a church in which his meeting was held, claiming that God told him to do that.

In an average crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 people in the most recent Todd Bentley meetings, only very few have come forward for salvation or revival.

In the meetings in Los Angles, on July 27, 2008, Todd Bentley tossed DVDs, CDs, books and Bibles from the stage into the audience.

A woman from San Diego went to the Los Angeles meetings on July 26-27, 2008, having prayed intensely for protection from the enemy. Being fully armed for spiritual warfare, she went into the Todd Bentley meeting; and it wasn't long before she was overwhelmed by a sense of heavy demonic activity. She was actually very afraid of the spiritual wickedness in the place and cried out to God to end that wickedness. The people around her were so drunk in the spirit of demons that they laughed hysterically, and, when she fell across several of them, they continued laughing hysterically and patting her, trying to impart the demons to her. The atmosphere reeked of demonic activity.

Todd Bentley uses a great deal of terminology from the occult (from his occultic background [background from before he was saved]) and has at least one tattoo of the all-seeing eye and other occultic symbols. He only occasionally preaches a very watered-down presentation of the gospel.

People standing outside of the meeting place in Los Angeles mocked a man who was preaching the truth to them (presenting them with evidence that we have all sinned, followed by the message of God's grace through Jesus Christ); and people waiting to get into the meeting mocked the man and prayed against him (though he was preaching the truth to them).

Etc., etc., etc.

I firmly believe that Todd Bentley is saved. However, he apparently has not renounced his pre-salvation involvement in the occult and/or New Age movement. Until he renounces his pre-salvation involvement in these things, the devil will continue to have a foothold in his life. He may be able to see things about other people in the spirit realm or be able to apparently "see" a short distance into the future. However, this is most likely not of God. Todd is probably being influenced by familiar spirits (again from not renouncing his pre-salvation involvement in the occult and/or New Age movement) and is, unfortunately, not discerning the true source of the revelations. He himself needs repentance, revival, and deliverance before he can really be used of the Lord in such a ministry. We need to continue to pray that the Lord will open his spiritual eyes and ears to the truth about how his past involvement in drugs, alcohol, the occult and/or the New Age movement are affecting him and those around him. We also need to pray that the Lord will intervene in his marriage and family.
