God's Church of Eternal Life? Hmmm. . . .

I found a new Website tonight; and I think it may be put up by yet another religious cult. What do you think?

by their own words this is what they believe

STATEMENT OF MISSION

God's Church of Eternal Life is called to preach the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ by word and deed.

God's Church of Eternal Life is called to encourage the sharing of God's grace through participation in the sacraments, through Christian friendship, and through benevolent giving to promote the preaching of the good news and through the performance of Christian good works.

God's Church of Eternal Life is called to dispense the Sacrament of Holy Communion for both the forgiveness of sin and the sanctification of victimization in this world.

God's Church of Eternal Life is called to dispense the Sacrament of Baptism as affirmation of one's call to eternal fellowship with God.

God's Church of Eternal Life is called to promote the performance of good works as a response to God's love for us.

God's Church of Eternal Life is called to proclaim that sin and death, and therefore condemnation to hell, are the natural order of the cosmos.

God's Church of Eternal Life is called to proclaim that God frequently intervenes in the natural order of the cosmos to promote it to produce eternal life.

Notice the wording they use. I frequently see the word "cosmos" used leading me to believe they are scientific in their approach. Be weary!

Or, rather, "be wary". Don't worry. I don't plan to join GCOEL. I just wanted to point out that they do appear to be a religious cult. There is much more to point out about their cultish nature. But I don't have time to do so now.

The Calls to Service
in
God's Church of Eternal Life

A Visitor
is called to look into the inner workings of the church without making a committment to the duties of ministry. It is similar to the Ministry of Friend of Christians but does not require caring committment to the church and its members.

The Friend of Christians
is called to promote the right of Christians to practice the Christian faith. He partakes in a secondary salvation through the salvation by Jesus Christ of his Christian friend. He may become a Friend of Jesus through the Sacrament of Christian Friendship.

A Friend of Jesus
is encouraged to ponder the benefits of confessing and practicing the Christian faith and to encourage his Christian Friend to remain faithful to his call to Christian service.

The Christian Friend
is called to receive the bountiful grace of God and to share it with others.

Sharing of the bountiful grace of God includes:

1. Eternal fellowship with God through salvation and sanctification of the believer by Jesus Christ.
2. The preaching of the word of God through the support of called and sanctified pastors.
3. The hearing of the will of God revealed in teachings from the Holy Bible by called and sanctified pastors.
4. The practice of fellowship with friends found in the faith.
5. The practice of the art of righteousness through inspiration by the Holy Spirit to overcome the power of sin and death in the world.

The Christian Friend is authorized to administer the Sacrament of Prosperity Celebration and the Sacrament of Christian Friendship to those around him and is encouraged to reach out and call others to the bountiful grace of God by leading them to hear the word of god preached in the church by word and deed. The Christian Friend may act as an Independent Christian or may associate himself with a local assembly of Christians.

The Family Minister
is called to be a member of a family through marriage, birth or adoption. The family is the primary unit in God's Church of Eternal Life . Each member of the family is saved to eternal life through the faith of any member of the family. For the assurance of eternal salvation, it is preferred that all family members be baptised members of the church. The church promotes both adult and infant baptism. The male adult member of the family shall hold the position of Father of the Family and shall be addressed as 'Father' followed by his name. The adult female of the family shall hold the position of Mother of the Family and shall be addressed as 'Mother' followed by her name. It is presumed that childless married couples are planning to have children and they shall be accorded the appropriate title. Male children shall be known as Brothers of the Family and shall be addressed as 'Brother' followed by his name. Female children shall be known as Sisters of the Family and shall be addressed as 'Sister' followed by her name. Single adult members shall be referred to appropriately as 'Brother' or 'Sister'. Married persons shall wear an appropriate wedding ring on their left ring finger and shall display it prominently by placing the open palm of their left hand flat against their chest and over their heart prior to greeting another member of the church. Single persons shall place their right hand over their heart prior to greeting another member of the church.

The Fellowship Leader or Activities Leader
is called to compose and lead a Special Activities Group under the supervision and inspiration of a Community Pastor. A Special Activities Group is a group of people who get together for fellowship around a special theme. Themes may be religious or secular. Bible Study groups, visitation groups, evangelism groups, Liturgy Service groups and prayer groups would be examples of religious fellowship groups. Spectator of or Participation in sports and games, hobby groups such as photography, painting, cooking, needlework, model trains / planes / cars, Ham Radio, computer user groups, and such activities would be examples of secular fellowship groups. The Fellowship Leader is a volunteer position for which no salary is paid. Certain expenses may be reimbursed by the church as approved by the Regional Council of Ministers supervising the local area. Each group is considered to be a ministry sponsored by the church and all donations and contributions given by or to members of the group in relation to the fellowship activity are considered to be donations to the church. Fellowship is a sacrament of the church and participation in a fellowship group is considered to be a form of worship which spiritually enriches the lives of all participants. Fellowship groups engage in only moral and legal activities. Use of recreational drugs, gambling and other similar illegal or immoral activities are not sanctioned. A fellowship group is a church mission and shall be listed in the appropriate List of Missions by the Fellowship Leader's name, the fellowship function, and the fellowship Leader's address. Fellowship Leaders do not necessarily expect to be considered for other positions of church leadership.

Re: God's Church of Eternal Life? Hmmm. . . .

The Neighborhood Pastor
is called to minister to a small congregation under the supervision and inspiration of a Community Pastor. He has the right to administer the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Healing to those in his care. He may administer The Sacrament of Baptism under the direct supervision of his Community Pastor. He is also charged with ministering to the daily spiritual needs of those in his care by performing the service settings appropriate to each person's need and by seeking additional help for those who are in need of it from church sources. He is to regularly communicate with his Community Pastor to inform the church of the special needs of his ministry and to determine if additional help might be needed from the church to assist him in his ministry. His congregation will typically include 3 to 12 families and his duties are usually a part-time vocation. If he is paid, as would be the case of a Community Pastoral Trainee, compensation is paid on an hourly or daily basis at a wage defined by the Council of Ministers for his area and expenses are fully reimbursed by the church as defined by his Council of Ministers. In husband and wife teams, each person shall be considered to be individual pastors and shall be so compensated and so considered for promotion. It is not required that both husband and wife be members of the formal ministry. Neighborhood Pastors should have two years of college or equivalent life experience and must have been practicing the art of Christian living for at least two years. The church may provide an educational benefit to assist the minister in bringing his education level up to the level required. The Neighborhood Pastor shall complete an approved course of in-service and classroom training during which time he will be known as an Associate Community Pastor. A position of Neighborhood Pastor is considered the first step of progressive growth in the formal ministry of the church. The Neighborhood Pastor's ministry shall be known by the Neighborhood Pastor's name and address and shall be so listed in the appropriate Lists of Ministries.
All pastors are considered to be spiritually male. The church is the bride of Christ. The view toward Christ is male and the view toward the world is female.

The formal ministry is comprised of two types of pastors, Pastors of the Order of Aaron and Pastors of the Order of Melchizedek. Aaronian pastors are highly educated and work skillfully through a complex organization. Aaronian pastors are usually promoted through educational achievement and are usually salaried employees of the church. Melchizedekian pastors are specially gifted and talented and are usually independent pastors who are promoted on the basis of experience and artistic accomplishment. Both types are expected to become accomplished Christianists. Both types are to command equal respect and authority. Neither type is superior to the other.

The Community Pastor
is called to minister by supervising the operation of a Fellowship Service Center Ministry in the community. Community Pastors are usually talented in Administration and Fellowship. The service center will provide religious training, evangelism, counseling, and fellowship opportunities at the community level in cooperation with the Neighborhood Pastors and Fellowship Leaders. Several Neighborhood Pastors, Fellowship Leaders and Specialty Pastors may operate from a service center on a cooperative basis, each supporting the local church with his special talents. Specialty Pastors and Special Service Centers may be commissioned to fill special needs of a particular community or as a church missionary outreach. Specialty Pastors for example, might have training as Psychiatric Social Workers, Family Counsellors or Emergency Service Workers and may provide these services at various Fellowship Service Centers. A Specialty Pastor might also show special talents in the area of preaching or evangelism.

The positions of Community Pastor and Specialty Pastor are full time positions supported by the local church. The Community Pastor will usually be working with a group of about 12 Neighborhood Pastors or Activity Leaders and their congregations. In husband and wife pastoral teams, each shall be considered as individual pastors and shall be so compensated and so considered for promotion. It is not necessary that both husband and wife be members of the formal ministry.

The Community Pastor shall have a four year college degree or be in the process of earning a four year degree. An educational benefit shall be available to the Community Pastor for the purpose of obtaining such a degree which will fully reimburse the Community Pastor for education expenses while he is in active service. An appropriate amount of time shall be allocated to study time in the pastor's daily schedule. The educational benefit may also be used to pursue advanced degrees. Use of the educational benefit commits the pastor to service in the church as defined by the Regional Council of Ministers for his local area, usually two to four years of service for each year of schooling. Life experience or self education may be counted in lieu of a college degree for certain persons so approved by the Regional and National Council of Ministers. Community Pastors should have been practicing the art of Christian Living for at least five years.

Community Pastors should have had prior pastoral experience in the position of Neighborhood Pastor or as an ordained minister of a sister denomination.

Specialty pastors engaged in secular services such as Family Counselling, Medical Services, Budgeting and Auditing, Legal Services and other critical areas should be educated as is appropriate to their ministry area and shall be properly certified by a reliable secular authority as is appropriate and customary. Specialty pastors talented in evangelism and Pentecostal gifts are self-certified by their accomplishments.

The Minister of the Church
is called to oversee the operation of a Church Area. He will see that Neighborhood Pastors and Community Pastors are properly trained to perform their mission in the church, that the church grows at an acceptable rate, that scripture is properly interpreted and that the good news is preached as widely as possible and with acceptable accuracy, allowing for the complete spectrum of Christian Faith from strict liturgical to fully charismatic and from conservative to liberal with emphasis on moderation. The Minister of the Church shall be promoted on a competitive basis from the position of Community Pastor. The geographic area of a Church Area shall be determined by the Regional Council of Ministers. The Minister of the Church will normally minister from a Theological College and Seminary Campus.

The Regional Council of Ministers
is called to oversee the regional operation of the church. The Regional Council of Ministers shall be financed by the churches of each respective region. The Mission of the Regional Council of Churches shall be defined by the Regional List of Missions authorized and supported by the local congregations and independent church members.
The Regional Council of Ministers shall include seven Neighborhood pastors, three Community Pastors, one Minister of the Church, nine Christian Friends, and one Friend of Christ. Council members shall serve for a term of three (3) years in staggered succession by groups of seven (7). Regional council members shall be nominated from the region served by their Regional Council of Ministers and shall be elected by a majority of voting members of the region served by their Regional Council of Ministers. Regional Council of Minister members may be reelected any number of times. Council members may serve on only one Council of Ministers at a time.

The National Council of Ministers
shall coordinate the overall mission of the church and direct the expenditure of funds in support of the general church mission as defined by the National List of Missions. The general national church mission shall include support of foreign missions, printed media evangelism, radio and television evangelism, public Christian education and other missions requested from the National Church by the local assemblies and independent Christians as depicted by the National List of Missions.

The composition of the National Council of Ministers is different from the Regional Council. The Nationsl Council of Ministers is made up of seven members each serving a two-year term. Four are elected on even numbered years and three are elected on odd numbered years. Only those who have served a term on the Regional Council may be considered for nomination to the National Council. Persons may be nominated to a council by recommendation by two or more members of their home region. Nominees to the National Council of Ministers shall be elected by the church at large.

Voting
All people enrolled in the church have at least one vote to elect a representative to their regional council and a separate vote to elect a representative to the national council.

Friends of Christ have 1 vote for each council, Christian Friends have two votes for each council and members of the formal pastorate have three votes for each council. Positions supersede one another, that is a member of the formal pastorate has 3 votes as pastor and none as a Christian Friend. No member shall have less than 1 nor more than 3 votes.

All voting is done on the basis of membership present and voting except that members may mail in their ballots or have their sealed ballots delivered by a trusted friend and such ballots are considered as presence at the voting. All members must be notified of up-coming opportunities to vote at least 30 days in advance. This notification shall include the appropriate voting ballots and notification of the number of votes available as allowed by their membership level. The completed ballots shall be collected from each member wishing to vote prior to the election and counted at the election. Every effort shall be made to see that each person including independent Christians, the elderly, and the physically handicapped who wants to vote has the opportunity to vote. Voting is voluntary and is not required.

A RED or PINK ballot shall be used for local items. A YELLOW or TAN ballot shall be used for regional items. A WHITE ballot shall be used for National items. These colors apply to all formal publications of these respective groups.

The National Council of Ministers shall determine the geographical authority of the Regional Councils of Ministers. Regional Councils of Ministers shall be elected from their own regions. The mission of the National Council of Ministers shall be defined and supported by the Regional Councils of Ministers.

No one shall serve on more than one Council of Ministers at the same time. A person elected to a council shall be considered to be a member of the council, regardless of weather the council is in session or not, for the full length of his term. Appropriate meeting facilities for the Council of Ministers shall be provided by the church.

The composition and responsibility of the World Council of Ministers shall be defined by the National Councils of Ministers from those nations participating in such a council. A president, known as the Presiding Pastor of the Council of Ministers, shall be elected from among the members of the council by a majority vote of the council members. The Presiding Pastor shall provide direction and set priorities on the agenda of the Council of Ministers. The Presiding Pastor shall also be responsible for publishing the Statement of Mission Accomplishments to the members represented by the Council of Ministers and will represent the council to the body of the church and to the general public. The Statement of Mission Accomplishments shall provide information on function and well-being of all of the ministries within the jurisdiction of the council. The Presiding Pastor is elected for a term of one year and may be reelected.

Michael G. Weisel shall be known as the Founding Pastor. The Founding Pastor shall serve as The Nativity Council of Ministers until there are 1,200 members in the church. A council member will be added to The Nativity Council of Ministers for each 1,200 additional members until there are the 7 members specified for the council. At that time there will be 8,400 members in the church and the Nativity Council of Ministers shall become known as The National Council of Ministers. At this time, Regional Councils of Ministers will begin to be developed in a similar manner. It is expected that up to three Regional Councils of Ministers will be developed in the most populous states and that each state will have at least one Regional Council of Ministers.

After the Church has over 12,000 members, Pastor Weisel shall be known as Founding Pastor of God's Church of Eternal Life and shall serve in an advisory capacity in this position for life.
Only Christian Friends baptized or confirmed in the faith shall be counted in the statistics to determine the membership count.

The Founding Pastor shall receive a salary equivalent to the 90th percentile salary of those in the position of Minister of the Church.

No salary in the church shall ever exceed an amount in excess of three times the national average personal income as determined by the U.S. Department of Labor or other appropriate federal authority. No full-time salaried pastor in the church shall earn less than the national average personal income. Part-time salaried pastors shall earn a salary in proportion to the time spent ministering in the church based on the rules above and a 50 hour work week.

Full time pastors should plan on spending up to 12 hours a day doing ministry work for seven days a week. All pastors are on-call twenty-four hours a day. Up to 125 work days a year may be taken as paid vacation, paid retreat days, paid days off or paid sick time.

Funds for missions shall be collected as voluntary offerings budgeted from the local congregations and given in amounts volunteered by the membership. Independent Christians may donate through any ministry or by mail or by secure on-line means to the ministry or ministries of choice.

Expenditures throughout the church shall never be made using credit. All expenses, including purchase of land and contracts for buildings and rental of meeting space shall be paid in advance except for contract performance credits which shall be available at time of contract but held until performance is completed.

Re: God's Church of Eternal Life? Hmmm. . . .

Credit in the form of routine billing by utility companies is permitted provided the bills are always paid on time. It is preferred that these be paid in advance too by prepayment of the average bill and an additional payment to make up any difference.

Funds shall be accumulated in an insured bank savings account until funding is sufficient to initiate the ministry. Interest shall self-accrue to the ministry account. All budgets should be properly balanced with estimated income equal to or greater than estimated expenses. Only the finest, most reputable accounting methods shall be used in tracking and reporting the financial performance of the ministries. Minor ministries are those in which no or minimal capital expenditures are required to start the ministry. Minimal capital expenditures might include service vehicles, furniture, office equipment and other such items. Minor ministries usually rent floor space and certain pieces of equipment. These ministries shall be funded in advance for a period of least one year. Every six months, the success and popularity of the minor ministry shall be examined by the appropriate supervising authority to see that at least 90% of one year of funding, as described by the ministry budget, is available for the continuation of the ministry. If funding for continuation of the ministry is lacking the ministry shall be terminated at the end of the six month period following the period in which such a determination is made or the budget may be adjusted downward to reflect the lesser income. If the budget and expenses are cut to reflect the actual income, the ministry will be considered to be properly funded. Six-month periods shall be counted from the first day of the month in which the ministry was formally initiated and the doors of the ministry were opened to provide the ministry service.

Major ministries are those in which major capital expenditures are required. Major capital expenditures would be for such items as land and buildings. These ministries must be supplied with sufficient funds to support the initiation of the ministry, that is build the buildings and provide appropriate salaries and operating expenses for a period of at least 3 years. Every year the success and popularity of the major ministry shall be examined by the appropriate council to see that at least 90% of three years of funding, as described by the ministry budget, is available for the continuation of the ministry.

If funding for continuation of the ministry is lacking the budget may be adjusted to compensate for the lesser income or the ministry may be promoted among the church membership for the period of one year. At the end of this second year, if 90% of three years funding is not available, the ministry shall be terminated one year from the date on which such a determination is made.

Any funds left in the bank account of a ministry after the termination of the ministry shall be applied to the general fund of the immediate supervisory authority. Buildings, equipment and personnel from terminated ministries may be transferred as needed to continued ministries or buildings and equipment may be sold at no loss.

The General Fund may be used to supplement the needed amount to continue to support ministries that have at least 90% funding at the time of review. If needed money is not in the general fund, the ministry shall be terminated or the budget must be adjusted downward. The general fund may also receive general donations from members. Excess funds are defined as the amount that exceeds 125% of the amount required to support a ministry as described by the ministry budget. Excess funds of all ministries shall be applied to the general fund of the immediate supervisory authority. Each General Fund shall have a budget amount and be subject to the 90% rule and the 125% rule. If the General Fund is not in excess of 90% of its budgeted amount, the budget for that General Fund shall be redefined to the current value for the next budgetary cycle. Amounts in excess of 125% of the budget shall be transferred to the General Fund of the next higher authority. Any 125% excesses in the National General Fund shall be invested in secure investments and be held as reserves against 90% ministry shortages. The budget of healthy ministries may be expanded by up to 25% in each year if such funding is available.

Each ministry shall provide appropriate accounting of expenditures and shall provide an annual financial report to each contributor to the ministry. This may be done by the individual ministries or such a report may be included in the Council of Ministers Statement of Mission Accomplishments Report.

Each ministry is subject to random audit at any time. If the auditor believes that funds are being used improperly, such suspicion shall be reported to the responsible council of ministers. The ministry leader or the mission minister of finance shall be instructed in the appropriate use of funds and the ministry shall become the subject of quarterly audits.

Continued improper use of funds shall be sufficient reason to terminate a ministry. Such ministries shall be terminated without regard to public prominence, financial success or public popularity. Appropriate means to appeal a termination shall be provided by the responsible council. Continued proper usage of funds for a period of three years shall restore the ministry to the occasional random audit list.

Individual Members and local congregations may donate to the church by selecting one or more items from the List of Ministries. Lists of Ministries may be provided by the councils or intermediate levels of authority including the local congregations. Each member may budget a regular offering in the support of the selected ministry or may simply give to the general fund. Donations may be made at any ministry location, at group assemblies, or by mail. Donations given to any local church or local ministry are considered to be donated only to that ministry, and not to any other person, ministry, administrative authority or region except by the 125% rule.

Ministries may be defined and added to the List of Ministries at the request of any member (with approval of the local church or any administrative authority of the church or by any council). Ministries may also be defined and added to the list by a majority vote of the members of any church group, the Regional Councils of Ministers or the National Council of Ministers.

Ministries may be opened both as Major ministries and Minor ministries by specifying budgets for both. Contributions should specify that the donation is to the major or minor ministry. If no specification is made, the amount will go to the minor ministry with the 125% overflow from the minor ministry going to the major ministry. Any 125% overflow from the major ministry shall be handled in the standard manner.

Ministries may also be designated as subpart A, subpart B, or subpart C. Subpart A ministries, are minor ministries in which services are contracted out to a provider. Subpart B ministries are either minor ministries provided by church personnel, or the continuing operation portion of the major ministries. Subpart C ministries are Capitol Building Fund portion of major ministries. An example of progression through the subparts. Presume a ministry to provide family counselling for families with troubled teens. This could be started as a subpart A ministry by contracting with a provider to supply the counselling. As the ability to provide this service grows, the service would be provided under subpart B by hiring such counsellors and renting office space. Finally, under subpart C, a building could be built in which this ministry would be provided. Such a building could be included as part of an area or regional campus. Subpart C funds from several ministeries might be combined to build a building. Floor space in the jointly constructed building would be allocated in porportion to investment.

Unspecified donations are presumed made to subpart A ministries. Overflow from subpart A ministries go to subpart B ministries. Overflow from subpart B ministries go to subpart C ministries. Overflow from subpart C ministries are passed up to the next ministry level or supplemented from above on the 90% and 125% rules. Subpart A ministries are not required as a formal step in starting a ministry. Subpart B ministries are required as a formal step in starting a ministry. Subpart B ministries may become Subpart C ministries only upon full funding of both the Subpart B and the Subpart C requirements.

The 90% rules do not become effective until the initiating funding exceeds 90%. For example, if a subpart A fund is opened for a ministry, it may take several months or several years to acquire the 90% funding required to initiate the ministry. Once the ministry is initiated, the 90% and the 125% rules then apply. The 90% and 125% values are adjustable by the Regional Council of Ministers and may vary from 50% to 150%. All ministries under the jurisdiction of the council must use the same percentages.

I don't know about you, but I find all of the above (quoted directly from "The Calls to Service in God's Church of Eternal Life" page) extremely boring. [yawn . . . yawn . . . yawn].

But I wanted to post the information just to show you how weird it is. And there is far more available from different links from the main site if you are interested (or struggling with insomnia).
