Are you a "true" Christian?

Tell me, are you a true Christian? How would you know? You are reading from a book that is over two thousand years old. Why not just read from the Gospel of Mary? Or perhaps the Appocolypse of Peter? What makes you so sure that Jesus was written about fairly and correctly?
How do you know that Jesus wasn't married and surpressed by the Catholic church? Who are you to say that there isn't a definite bloodline dating back to Jesus and Mary?
Are you mad yet? You should be. This is how most non-Christian people bring doubt into Christianity. Think about it. If Jesus was married and had a child with Mary; named Sarah is the report; don't you think we would have proof by now? We are living in such a technologically-advanced age that we can find out anything really quickly. Don't believe me? Just watch CSI. But I digress, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, sent down the Holy Spirit to indwell all those who accept Him as the risen King of kings. So we have Him to guide us in our lives.

Re: Are you a "true" Christian?

All the babble that the world puts out is just a sign of the times. So is the existence of so many cults, cult-like churches, false religions, and abusive relationships. There is no doubt in my mind that we are living in the last generaltion. Rather than returning to Jesus Christ through repentance (individually, corporately, nationally, and internationally), I think most Christians would rather sweep their sins under the carpet. Let's face it. It's easier to do that than to take an extended period time to sit before the Lord, do complete soul-searching, and repent of everything He reveals. He doesn't usually "hurry up" when revealing things to His people. He wants to develop patience, peace, love, etc., in each of us. And, in our technologically-advanced time, we have grown to expect to have everything immediately. So most people are technologically advanced but spiritually deprived and dying. I'm no exception. I've noticed that when I have Internet access, I suffer spiritually. The temptation is to be online several hours a day. But when I don't have Internet access, I do better spiritually. Internet access is good when not used in excess; and I need to go offline more of the time. I feel like I've really grieved the Holy Spirit by spending so much time online and so little time just waiting on the Lord. And I'm sure I'm not the only person (even the only Christian) who struggles to put Him first in everything. I really feel like I need to return to the Old Paths--the paths that Jesus and the disciples and apolstles took, the paths of generations long past. I desperately need to return to the Lord Who is leading me to choose the Old Paths more often. (Don't worry. I'll stop by here from time to time to see what's going on and to help out as much as I can; but He is leading me to just put Him first; and I think He is calling me to "down time" for a while.)

THE OLD PATHS
I liked the old paths, when

Moms were at home.
Dads were at work.
Brothers went into the army.
And sisters got married BEFORE having children!

Crime did not pay;
Hard work did;
And people knew the difference.

Moms could cook;
Dads would work;
Children would behave..

Husbands were loving;
Wives were supportive;
And children were polite.

Women wore the jewelry;
And Men wore the pants.
Women looked like ladies;
Men looked like gentlemen;
And children looked decent.

People loved the truth,
And hated a lie;
They came to church to get IN,
Not to get OUT!

Hymns sounded Godly;
Sermons sounded helpful;
Rejoicing sounded normal;
And crying sounded sincere.

Cursing was wicked;
Drinking was evil;
and divorce was unthinkable.

The flag was honored;
America was beautiful;
And God was welcome!

We read the Bible in public;
Prayed in school;
And preached from house to house
To be called an American was worth dying for;
To be called a Christian was worth living for;
To be called a traitor was a shame!

Sex was a personal word.
Homosexual was an unheard of word,
And abortion was an illegal word.

Preachers preached because they had a message;
And Christians rejoiced because they had the VICTORY!
Preachers preached from the Bible;
Singers sang from the heart;
And sinners turned to the Lord to be SAVED!

A new birth meant a new life;
Salvation meant a changed life;
Following Christ led to eternal life.

Being a preacher meant you proclaimed the word of God;
Being a deacon meant you would serve the Lord;
Being a Christian meant you would live for Jesus;
And being a sinner meant someone was praying for you!

Laws were based on the Bible;
Homes read the Bible;
And churches taught the Bible.

Preachers were more interested in new converts,
Than new clothes and new cars.
God was worshiped;
Christ was exalted;
and the Holy Spirit was respected.

Church was where you found Christians
on the Lord's day, rather than in the garden,
on the creek bank, on the golf course,
or being entertained somewhere else.

I still like the old paths the best!

"The Old Paths" was written by a retired minister who lives
in Tennessee.

The cry of my heart

Psalm 32

Of David. A maskil.

 1 Blessed is he
       whose transgressions are forgiven,
       whose sins are covered.
 2 Blessed is the man
       whose sin the LORD does not count against him
       and in whose spirit is no deceit.

 3 When I kept silent,
       my bones wasted away
       through my groaning all day long.

 4 For day and night
       your hand was heavy upon me;
       my strength was sapped
       as in the heat of summer.
       Selah

 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you
       and did not cover up my iniquity.
       I said, "I will confess
       my transgressions to the LORD "—
       and you forgave
       the guilt of my sin.
       Selah

 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you
       while you may be found;
       surely when the mighty waters rise,
       they will not reach him.

 7 You are my hiding place;
       you will protect me from trouble
       and surround me with songs of deliverance.
       Selah

 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
       I will counsel you and watch over you.

 9 Do not be like the horse or the mule,
       which have no understanding
       but must be controlled by bit and bridle
       or they will not come to you.

 10 Many are the woes of the wicked,
       but the LORD's unfailing love
       surrounds the man who trusts in him.

 11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous;
       sing, all you who are upright in heart!

Psalm 51

For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

 1 Have mercy on me, O God,
       according to your unfailing love;
       according to your great compassion
       blot out my transgressions.
 2 Wash away all my iniquity
       and cleanse me from my sin.

 3 For I know my transgressions,
       and my sin is always before me.

 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
       and done what is evil in your sight,
       so that you are proved right when you speak
       and justified when you judge.

 5 Surely I was sinful at birth,
       sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

 6 Surely you desire truth in the inner parts;
       you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
       wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

 8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
       let the bones you have crushed rejoice.

 9 Hide your face from my sins
       and blot out all my iniquity.

 10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
       and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

 11 Do not cast me from your presence
       or take your Holy Spirit from me.

 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
       and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
       and sinners will turn back to you.

 14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God,
       the God who saves me,
       and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.

 15 O Lord, open my lips,
       and my mouth will declare your praise.

 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
       you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
       a broken and contrite heart,
       O God, you will not despise.

 18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper;
       build up the walls of Jerusalem.

 19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices,
       whole burnt offerings to delight you;
       then bulls will be offered on your altar.

And a song I heard recently:

Take My Life

Holiness, holiness is what I long for;
Holiness is what I need.
Holiness, holiness is what You want from me.

Faithfulness, faithfulness is what I long for;
Faithfulness is what I need.
Faithfulness, faithfulness is what You want from me.

So take my heart and form it,
Take my mind, transform it,
Take my will, conform it
To Yours, to Yours, O Lord.

Righteousness, righteousness is what I long for;
Righteousness is what I need.
Righteousness is what You want from me.

So take my heart and form it,
Take my mind, transform it,
Take my will, conform it
To Yours, to Yours, O Lord.

So take my heart and form it,
Take my mind, transform it,
Take my will, conform it
To Yours, to Yours, O Lord.
To Yours, to Yours, O Lord.

So take my heart and form it,
Take my mind, transform it,
Take my will, conform it
To Yours, to Yours, O Lord.
To Yours, to Yours, O Lord.
To Yours, to Yours, O Lord.
