Comments? Suggestions?

Are there any programs, services, or resources for students with dependents that you'd like to see offered or know more about?

If so, let us know!

It would be nice to have some sort of get-together once or twice a month, perhaps over brown bag lunch. I would love to meet other grad students with children- my graduate cohort is great but I don't have much in common with them besides our classes.

This is a good suggestion. If you are interested in attending something like that, please respond here with your comments/suggestions.

Would you like for these brown bags to be organized around topics and to include invited speakers/guests, or to be more social?

Additionally, is there a day or time that would work best for you?

I would be interested in meeting up with other SWD's as well. A once-a-month meeting/lunch would be fun. I'm still waiting to get a finalized course schedule for the Fall, but as of right now, it looks like Wednesday lunch or Thursday afternon coffee could work for me on a monthly basis.

I'd be interested in an informal setting that's geared towards making connections and giving each other moral support.

Two of us are already planning on getting together for coffee or lunch this Fall, so maybe we can post the date, place, and time on here if there are others who'd want to join us.

I would be interested in meeting other SWDs as well. I'm not sure of my schedule yet, but I should generally be available for lunch, and possibly an afternoon?

Also, I'm always looking for good babysitters...and could recommend a few to others.

Thanks,
Sage

I would love to also meet up with other SWDs this fall. I am an incoming law student with a 1 year old.

I will be on campus as of August 26 and would love to meet for lunch !

Send me an email and we can get a meetup list together !

What a great resource. I hope people log on !

Host Families Request

On behalf of Penn's Intercultural Leadership Program (ILP), I would like to inform you that we are designing a pilot Host-family program for first-year Penn graduate students, both international and American.

The purpose of this program is not only to integrate foreign students
effectively into American culture, but also to connect domestic students who are not from Philadelphia to local acquaintances who can help them familiarize with the city faster.

We believe this will be a mutually satisfying experience for both the
students and the host families. Consequently it will be great if this year's pilot study can evolve successfully into a fully official Host-family program that the University will implement for years to come.

Our goal for this year's pilot study is simple: to recruit up to ten host families, who are willing to share a lunch, or dinner, with ten of our own graduate-student members from the ILP. It will be wonderful if the families and students decide to engage in other activities in the future, but a first meal together would be concrete enough a result that we can use to report back to the University, that such Host-family program is viable at Penn.

We really hope that some grad students with families might be interested in participating in this pilot-study. Together we can all make Penn a more inclusive and diverse campus!

We are looking forward to any helpful insights and suggestions you may have.

With warm regards,
