Re: Welcome!
Hello fellow dodgeballers. At last I have found a forum dedicated to dodgeball.....well done and thanks. I have a dodgeball team in Halifax (West Yorkshire) and I'm looking to start a league, anyone got any hot tips? We've got the balls (ooo er missus) and we've got a hall but we seem to be the only team in the North of England. How can I get people interested? Help!
Cheers
Sheriff

Re: Welcome!
I hope my e-mail helped you out. It can take 2 or 3 weeks before anything happens though. I'm still working at getting the word out. We still only have 3 teams, so I am going to concentreate on recruiting individuals/groups of friends and helping them to form teams.
Best of Luck!
Nick

Re: Welcome!
Just thought I'd give you an update on how I'm getting on. Your advice really helped, thank you. One of our players is a graphic designer and he pulled togther a superb flyer which I printed off at work (about 50 copies to be honest) lets hope my boss doesn't find out!!!
We then used Viper recruitment as an excuse to go out on a boys night out and staggered around Halifax until 2am talking to complete strangers and giving them flyers. They went in phone boxes, pubs, curry houses.... everywhere we went got flyer'd.
I woke up next day with a stinking hangover and not a single text or message on my phone.
An entire week went past and then last night at 7 o'clock a guy rang me and said 'are you that dodgeball guy'.. 'yes' I said... 'your not taking the piss are you?' he said... 'NO' i said. 'Well' he said 'can I bring 5 of my mates to play next tuesday?'....'Of course' I said.
So..... next Tues we have a match with some builders from Halifax.
Just wanted to say a massive thanks and I hope that if they enjoy it that they'll tell their mates and we'll get some more teams involved.
Cheers

Re: Welcome!
Glad to hear you got some opposition, at last. You have to take highs and lows when you try starting something new.
One of our 3 teams isn't keen anymore cause there is no new opposition. So this week we had an open night, for new players to come along and give it a go. We put out 1,000 flyers through people's letterboxes and had a posting in the local paper's what's on feature.
We charged £1 per head and had 10 new players turn up. We lost out financially on the night but will get it back in the long run. We had 3 players from my team, so us experienced guys took it in turns to ref and we played 3 matches.
There will definitely be 1 new team and maybe 2 forming from this one open night. We are planning on doing the same every 5th or 6th week for the rest of this year, targetting a different area of the town each time.
Keep the faith, and keep on spreading the word.

Re: Welcome!
Hi Nick,
We were playing last night and we had the grand total of 7 player and it suddenly came to me that 'why didn't we start off a 3 man league'. I mentioned it to the others and they agreed it was a good idea. That way we get the league starting earlier plus it's easier to find 2 mates willing to play with you, rather than 5. Then once the league starts we can extend the numbers to 6 per team. 6 per team is better, but it's a pipe dream at the moment for Halifax!
Is this something you have thought of for when numbers are low.

Re: Welcome!
We sometimes have similar problems. Last night we finished off the league season with 5 on 5. I agree that you have to go with what you've got to keep it going.

Re: Welcome!
Hi,
I though thtere would be a lot of people wanting to play.
My 4 year old Son has just started school and he, along with some of his friends, are hooked on dodgeball. They all want to play and so I thought about seeting up a kids team.
Setting up the venue and getting kids/parents involved isn't a problem, but I was wondering if there are any other kids teams out there and if there are any smaller sized official dodgeballs etc that I may be able to buy for them?
I'm working on the idea that kids are generally more accepting of sport and exercise than adults so it wold be easier to get the numbers - although with kids a syoung as 4/5 years old, maybe a maximum of 4/5 per team is sappropriate.
