Okay ya'll. What happens with this guy named Oedipus or something like that? Also, from the movie Troy, are there any Patrocolus fans out there? I cried when Hector killed him by mistake. He is one of my fave characters!!

Re: Greek Mythology

Those are some sweet toys, WP.

Oedipus was a prince who, at birth, was prophesied by an oracle to kill his father and marry his mother. So, his father, the king (I forget of which city-state) abandoned him, and he was taken in by a shepherd. Oedipus heard about the prophesy when he was in his late teens and left the shepherd's house because he thought the shepherd was his father and didn't want to kill him.
Oedipus was the first to solve the sphinx's riddle.
He eventually accidently killed his real father and married the queen, neither of them knowing who he was. WHen they found out both Oedipus and the queen killed themselves.

Don't you love Greek mythology? emoticon emoticon

Awake, Oh ye sleepers!
Arise and awake from your slumber. It's time to rise up and be who you were created to be.
Don't wait any longer, for now is the time. The kingdom is at hand. Pepare ye the way of the Lord.

42. Unfortunately he didn't guess that since he was a descendant of one of the telephone sanitizes who landed on the Earth, and disastrous consequences followed later down the road.

Re: Greek Mythology

WP is correct, however the sphinx had also failed to make herself aware of the meaning of life, the universe, and everything, so she wanted a different answer.

What walks on 4 legs in the morning, two at midday, and three in the evening?

Answer: Man. A baby crawls, a young man walks upright, and an old man walks with a cane.

Re: Greek Mythology

yes U do. 1st Athena is the goddess of war and knowledge.
2nd Oedipus put his eyes out. I believe he was from Thebes. They found out she was his mother years later after their kids were grown. His daughter cared for him once one of his sons took over and kicked him out. He died in peace though. His other son was banned from the city as well and led the attack as part of the 7 against Thebes. The daughter that cared for Oedipus buried the brother that attacked the city after it was forbiden by her uncle and was put to death for it.
So far my fave characer is Theseus.(and Psyche too. she married cupid)
