Re: A Hobbit's Tale
Thanks. Here's more:
* * *
Billy sat down on the blanket beside the fire that night. He sighed and hugged his knees up to his chest. Sam threw another log on the fire and sparks flew towards the sky.
“Billy, my lad, you’re going to have a great adventure.”
“Am I?”
Billy wondered.
“Yes, you are. Don’t get yourself stuck in the thinking that all adventures are horrible. It’s undoubtedly what the elders have been telling you.”
“Yes.”
Sam snorted,
“Well don’t believe it! It’s a lie and that’s sure.”
“Okay, I won’t believe it. But it doesn’t make me any less anxious.”
“Billy, we’re not even out of the Shire yet, what could possibly happen?”
“I was in the Shire when the warg attacked me.”
“True.”
Suddenly, a loud rustling noise came from the cornfield. Sam jumped up and drew his dagger, Billy’s eyes grew round. Then a shape emerged, running. It stopped and dropped something. Then it yelled,
“Sam! What’re you doing here?”
Sam squinted,
“Pippin?”
The old Took stepped into the light, his wrinkled face broke into a grin.
“The one and only!”
He hugged Sam and then looked over at Billy.
“Billy! Good to see you again.”
“You too, Great-Great Uncle Pippin.”
“Oh, I don’t like that, makes me feel old, Call me Pippin.”
“Okay, Pippin.”
“Now, let’s see, where’s those-ah! Here they are.”
He picked a bag of something up off the ground and brought it to the fire.
“Anyone for mushrooms?”
“Pippin! Where’d you get those?”
“Well,”
He said, defensively,
“Farmer Maggot’s too old to stop me now.”
“Pippin..”
“Sorry! But he has Shiitakes, Shiitakes Sam! I love those.”
He took a black mushroom from the sack and stuck it on a pointed stick, toasting it over the fire. Billy smelled the cooking fungus and sighed appreciatively.
“You’re a Took at heart Billy, my lad. Here.”
He held the mushroom out to Billy. Billy grinned and took it off the stick. He popped the whole thing into his mouth and chewed slowly.
“Mm, that’s dewishis.”
He mumbled through the food. Pippin laughed and said,
“Finish chewing first.”
He began roasting a second one. Sam scowled disapprovingly. He warned,
“Pippin, don’t let me catch you teaching Billy ways around Farmer Maggot’s dogs, don’t ever—”
“Relax, Sam, he’s not old enough yet. Another two years and maybe—”
“Pippin!”
“Mushroom?”
Sam groaned, but Pippin waved the mushroom under his nose and Sam gave in. Pippin smiled and began roasting a third.
“I’m going too, you know.”
“Huh?”
“I’m going with you.”
Billy said,
“Yes! I’m glad you’re coming Pippin.”
“Wait,”
Sam said,
“How’d you know we were going somewhere?”
“Well it’s only obvious. I also heard your gaffer talking about it.”
“Pippin...”
“Okay, Rosie told me to come.”
“I knew it! Well, that’s all right, you can come along.”
“Oh yeah,”
Pippin said, chewing yet another mushroom,
“Merry’s meeting us at the Green Dragon.”
“All right!”
“Well, company’s good.”
“All right then, we’ll start in the morning.”

Look around, Zilla's beating her up with his vocabulary! She's not that good, actually. Ask Zilla.

Re: A Hobbit's Tale
Merry sighed and leaned back in his chair.
"Best ale in the land, just like it always was."
He hummed a familiar soing and watched the door. Just then, three hobbits entered. Merry jumped up and yelled,
"Sam, Pippin, Billy! Over here!"
