Re: Love is all (A short story, entirely G-RATED)

(It's okay. I won't. He's in the RPG so that saves him)

Here's more at last!

The minister said,
"Do you have the rings?"
Talmus reached down and took the rings off the pillow that they had been carried on. The minister said,
"Repeat after me; with this ring, I do thee wed."
Talmus took Linfey's hand and slipped the ring on her finger, saying,
"With this ring, I do thee wed."
Linfey took his hand and said,
"With this ring, I do thee wed."
Linfey looked into Talmus's eyes and heard the minister ask,
"Do you, Talmus Kincaid, take Linfey Ross as your lawfully wedded wife, to love and to cherish, to honor and respect, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?”
“I do.”
Talmus answered, his eyes reflecting his sincerity, and his love.
“And do you, Linfey Ross, take Talmus Kincaid to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and respect, to honor and obey, in sickness, and in health, as long as you both shall live?”
“I do.”
Linfey smiled at Talmus through her white veil.
“I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride.”
Talmus lifted Linfey’s veil, wrapped his arms around her shoulders, and kissed her on the lips. It was longer than they had ever kissed before, and when they pulled away, the feeling of their first kiss on the lips lingered with them both. The minister turned them to face the congregation and proclaimed,
“Ladies and gentleman, may I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Talmus Kincaid.”
Rice flew and everyone cheered. Talmus kissed Linfey again and picked her up, carrying her outside. Linfey stood on the church’s porch, with all the single women behind her. She threw the bouquet, and a young woman caught the flowers. It was Linfey‘s mom who caught it. Talmus trade places with Linfey, and the single men gathered behind him. The minister protested as several young me dragged him into the crowd. Talmus grinned and shot the garter over his shoulder. To the minister’s dismay, it landed on top of his bald head. He blushed and snatched the garter off and tried to hand it to someone else before Talmus turned around, but it was too late. Everyone burst out laughing and the minister gave up and, laughed with them.

1st Anniversary

Linfey giggled and said,
“Oh, Talmus, I don’t think-”
“Come on Linnie, it’ll be good for you.”
He took her hand and led her towards the iced over lake.
“But Talmus, the baby.”
She placed a hand on her swollen abdomen.
“Honey, you’re not due for three weeks.”
Talmus said, kissing her lightly on the lips, then drew back and looked at her affectionately.
“What are you staring at?”
“I’m just thinking about how beautiful you are.”
“Stop it.”
She playfully punched him in the arm. Talmus wrapped his arms around her and kissed her again. Linfey sighed and lay her head on his chest. Then she giggled and said,
“Talmus, they baby’s got hiccups.”
“What?”
“Look.”
Sure enough, at regular intervals, Linfey’s stomach jumped. Talmus laughed and put his hand on her belly. He said,
“Come on, skate with me.”
Linfey consented,
“Okay.”

***

Linfey wobbled on the ice skates and Talmus reached out to steady her. She looked at him and smiled. He took her hand and they began to skate across the lake. Linfey wobbled slightly, and Talmus put his arm about her waist to steady her. He kissed her cheek, then gently let go of her altogether. She was okay for a few feet and then she wobbled. Flailing her arms for balance. She toppled, landing flat on her back, the wind knocked out of her. Talmus gasped and knelt beside her,
“Linfey! Linfey, are you alright?
“Talmus!”
Linfey’s eyes widened and she clutched her abdomen,
“Talmus, the baby,”
She groaned and rolled onto her side,
“It’s, too early, that baby. The baby!”
Talmus tried to calm her down. Linfey gasped as a contraction hit her. Talmus picked her up and staggered as he remembered he had ice skates on. He skated slowly towards the bank, Linfey groaning in his arms. When he reached the bank he ripped off his coat, spread it on the ground, and laid Linfey on it. He flipped open his cell phone and dialed. He put it to his ear and listened to the rings. One; two; three;
“Oh please God, let her be at home.”
Five; six;
“Hello?”
“Mariah, I need your help!”
“What’s wrong Talmus?”
“It’s Linfey and the baby.”
“But she’s not due for three weeks.”
Linfey screamed in the background as another contraction hit.
“Tell me something I DON’T know!”
Talmus said, angrily.
“Talmus, it’s alright. Tell me where you are.”
“Charis and Jon dropped us off at the lake.”
“Okay, I’m coming.”
She hung up. Talmus knelt beside Linfey in the snow and took her hand. He said,
“Linnie, it’ll be okay, Mariah’s on her way.”
Linfey nodded, her brow was drenched in sweat. She screamed as another contraction hit her. When it passed she gasped,
“Talmus,”
“Yes?”
“We need to...”
Talmus didn’t catch the last word as Linfey doubled over in the pain of another contraction. Talmus’s cell phone rang. He answered it,
“Hello?”
“Talmus,”
“Where are you Mariah?”
“My car won’t start.”
“Oh no!”
“Talmus, I’m sor-”
He hung up in exasperation. Linfey gasped,
“Unh, you, we, unh, need to pray.”
Talmus mentally kicked himself for not doing so earlier. He took Linfey’s hand and prayed,
“Father in Heaven, we don’t know why you’ve let this happen,”
Linfey groaned and gasped, her eyes widening with the pain.
“but we do know,”
Talmus continued,
“we do know that nothing is going to happen that isn’t your will.”
They heard a car in the distance.
“Please send us some help, Amen.”
“A-amen.”
Linfey groaned. She screamed again as yet another contraction came upon her. a van drove up, parked, and a man with shaggy black hair jumped out the driver’s side. He ran to Linfey and knelt beside her. He began to massage her stomach and said,
“Easy lady, we’re gonna get you through this.”
“Who-who are you?”
“I’m Dr. Alvin McNeely. I was on my way to Tulsa, when I heard a voice telling me to drive up here. Now I know it was God, telling me to help you.”
“D-doctor? Is my baby g-gonna be o-Ah!”
Another contraction came and she couldn’t finish. Dr. McNeely said,
“Ma’am, I’ll do the best I can.”
He turned to Talmus,
“Is this her first?”
“Yes it is.”
“Okay, we need to get her to my van. I’m a traveling doctor, so everything I need is in there.”
“I’m gld you’re here. The midwife’s car won’t start.”
“God really was watching over you two.”
Dr. McNeely picked Linfey up and carried her towards the van. Talmus ran ahead and opened the door. The inside of the van was a portable doctor’s office. Swivel chair, birthing table, s ink and all. Dr. McNeely stepped into the van and laid Linfey on the table. Just a Talmus shut the van door, snow began to fly. Dr. McNeely went over to the sink and began to wash his hands. Talmus took Linfey’s hand and asked the doctor,
“Is she gonna be okay?”
“I honestly don’t know.”
Linfey gasped and nearly rolled off the table. Talmus held her on the table. When the contraction passed, Dr. McNeely said,
“She’s early isn’t she?”
“Yes.”
“How early?”
“Three weeks to the day.”
“Oh my.”

Here's more! Hope ya'll like it.

***

Mariah listened to the dial tone on her phone before sickly hanging it up. She shook her head and muttered,
"What is that girl gonna do? She's never had a baby before, she never even helped with a delivery."
The middle aged woman sighed.
"Oh Lord, help that couple, they'll need it."
She picked up the phone again and dialed. Three rings, then,
"Hello?"
"Greg, this is Mariah."
"Hey Mariah, how is everything up there?"
"Not good. I've got a woman about to deliver up at the lake and my car won't start."
"What about Carl? He's got a car."
"He's out of town."
"Charis? Jon?"
"They're gone too. There's no one else in this small town with a car."
"Why'd you call me? I'm in Tulsa."
"I was wondering if Dr. McNeely was there."
"That would be heaven sent, he's never here. Last I heard, he was on assignment in Dallas."
"Dallas?"
"Yes. Someone just wouldn't trust anyone but him to do their three year olds heart surgery."
"Oh. I wish he was there."
"As do I. I'll be praying."
"Goodbye Greg."
"G'bye."
Mariah hung up.
"Lord, we could sure use a miracle right about now."

**

"Talmus! It hurts!"
Linfey yelled and squeezed Talmus's hand until her knuckles were white.
"It's okay Linfey, it's alright."
Dr. McNeely assured her,
"You're doing great."
"What am I now?"
"Six."
"How long does it take to get to a ten?"
Talmus asked, stroking Linfey's hand gently.
"Usually awhile, in fact, I'm surprised she's dilated this much already."
Linfey groaned,
“Is that, good or bad?”
“Oh, it’s good alright. Just keep going the way you are, it’ll be fine.”
“Oh!!!”
Linfey gripped the edges of the table and Talmus’s hand as another contraction came.
“Is she going to be okay?”
“Yes, I think she will. But I’m not for sure.”
“And the baby?”
Dr. McNeely shook his head.
“I honestly don’t know.”

**

“You have to be able to do something!”
Mariah fumed, frustrated.
“I’m sorry ma’am, but with the blizzard coming up like it is, there’s nothing we can do.”
“That girl could be OUT IN THE BLIZZARD, having her baby!”
“I’m sorry ma’am, but with the—”
Mariah hung up. She picked up the phone and dialed again.

**

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!! RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!
Talmus picked up his cell phone.
“Hello?”
“Talmus, how’s Linfey?”
“She’s doing fine, according to doc McNeely.”
“Dr. McNeely?”
“Yes. He drove up the road right after Linfey and I prayed. He’s got his office in his van, and—”
“I know Dr. McNeely. Can I speak to him?”
“Sure.”
Talmus held the phone to Dr. McNeely’s ear, as his own hands were occupied.
“Hello?”
“Alvin?”
“Mariah, how are you?”
“Never mind me, how’s Linfey and the baby?”
“Baby’s not born yet, Linfey’s doing fine.”
“Good. What number?”
“Six.”
“Already?”
“Yeah, surprised me to. Especially this early.”
“Hmm, yes. Thank God you’re there.”
“Yes, thank God.”
“Well, so long as she’s alright.”
“She’s doing good, as I said before.”
“Okay, I’ll have to tell Dr. Spragg you’re there.”
“Alright. G’bye.”
“Bye.”
Talmus hung up the phone for the doctor.
“Okay Linfey, we’re gonna have to work to bring this baby into the world. When another contraction comes, I want you to push, got it?”
Linfey nodded. A few minutes later a contraction came.
“Unh!”
“That’s good, you’re doing’ alright.”

**

“Thank You Lord.”
Mariah said as she hung up the phone. She picked it back up and dialed. Three rings,
“Hello?”
“Greg, I have some great news.”
“Sounds refreshing.”
“Alvin is with the Kincaid’s.”
“What?”
“Yes, he drove up the road right after Talmus and Linfey prayed.”
“Thank You Jesus.”
“That’s what I said. Linfey’s a six right now, but from all the noise she was making I could tell it isn’t easy for her.”
“Okay. I’ll get the staff together right now and pray.”
“Thank you. I’m about to conference call the prayer chain.”
“Okay. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Mariah hung up, then picked it up again and began dialing numbers.

**
A few hours later...

“UNH!!”
Linfey’s breathing was labored, but she pushed as hard as she could.
“Easy, Linnie, it’ll be okay.”
Talmus assured her.
“Go and help...”
“What?”
Talmus leaned closer to her.
“I said, go help Dr. McNeely.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. He could use it I’m sure.”
“If you say so sweetheart.”
“I say so.”
Talmu let go of Linfey’s hand and steped over to Dr. McNeely.
“Can I help you at all?”
“You sure you want to?”
“Yes.”
“Hand me that towel, will you?”
Talmus reached for the towel.
“Hey!”
“What?”
“Wash them hands first.”
“Oh, right.”
Linfey groaned,
“UNH, UH-UNH!”
“That’s it, you’re doing great.”
He took the towel from Talmus.
“She’s a seven now.”
“That’s good, I assume?”
“Yes, it is.”
