Re: Kumho next year (2005)
If you are after a custom intake manifold it might be worth contacting Bogg Brothers Limited.
There was a really good feature on them in the December Issue of Retro Cars. Basically they fit bike carbs to cars with great results! They make the manifolds up, supply the carbs (bike carbs are well cheap, about £30 a set second hand) and tune it on their rolling road. Turn key (4 cylinder) conversion can be had for up to £587.50, 4 cylinder manifolds can be made up for £176.25....these are individual applications, obviously 6 cylinder will be more (add another 50%, say £250 approx for a manifold?).
They are no strangers to 6 cylinder motors and have just done a TR6 (straight 6, 2.5 litre).
Just thought it might be worth ring if you are after a manifold or maybe ditch those Webers altogether , I know I will be giving them a ring when the time comes

Paul
Are you interested in the set of manifolds that I bought. I will sell them at the price I paid for them as I have changed plans. I have just bought an E30 M3.

Re: Kumho next year (2005)
Hi
I'am planing to run my e21 in the kumho next year, any advise on the best m20 engine is a 2.7 conversion worth it, or is a faster reving 2.5 better, also what kind of losses do you get through the transmission, ie what power do you need at the flywheel to make 180bhp at the wheel.
Also regal automotive sell a tripple weber m20 mainfold for about £350.00 add your carbs or throttle bodies.

Read the regs first on engines.

Re: Kumho next year (2005)
Glad to hear you're going to join us, it'll be great to have an E21 out there to break up all the E30's and E36's.
2.7's aren't allowed although there are a few already in there! Not sure about power losses, I suspect somewhere between 15-20% would be a good guess.

Re: Kumho next year (2005)
Hi
Why are 2.7s not allowed looking at the regs I thought it was any crank from the m20 family of engines so you could use a 525e one.

Re: Kumho next year (2005)
5.7.1 "The original type of engine for the model entered must remain as per the manufacturers production specification"
5.7.2 "The fitting of an alternative engine or internal engine parts to those for a particular model is not permitted"
The 2.7 was an Alpina and I'm not sure of the technicalities but I don't think it's classed an official BMW production model. From what I'm told this was outlawed because someone used to trounce all the other E30's by running a 335 year's back
Personally, I think you should be able to run a 2.7 or a 3.5 as what is important is the road wheel power is observed.
There are rumours that next year they are going to be alot stricter on these sort of things so stick to the regs.

Re: Kumho next year (2005)
Hi
I was thinking of the next bit that the replacement crank could be from a m20, not model specific. The top line limits building stroker engines and s14 heads on a m10 block etc.
If i have to stick witha 323i bore & stroke I might as well build an 2 liter m10 same power less wieght.
Jason
5.7.2 PROHIBITED MODIFICATIONS. ALL CLASSES The fitting of an alternative engine or internal engine parts to those for a particular model is not permitted. The replacement of Crankshaft, Conrods, Block, Head and Cam Carriers. These must all be of BMW Manufacture as fitted to the original engine type. The flywheel must be of the same material as supplied by BMW for that model.
Dry sump lubrication is prohibited.
