If the rings haven't sealed I presume that there'd be blue smoke from exhaust? Runs perfect, no smoke, no oil dripping, very smooth running. Are there any other possibilities?

how many miles have you done since the rebuild and how many times have you had to top the oil up?

About 3000 & have added about 3 litres

what i was going to say was maybe the person that built and fitted the engine may have toppen the oil up and started it to fill the filter and oil cooler and didnt check the oil after but that may be way off the mark

It must be burning it or leaking it.
If it's leaking you would see it.
Get someone to follow you while you give it pasting and get them to check for blue smoke. Revving on the spot it may not be so obvious.
