obc backlight help

i have 2 obc's and none light up.
i can see the display, but not clear or bright.
all the digits work on both and so does the button on the indicator stalk.
i't reads 7.0c temp,[correct]i have changed the bulb with a working one in between the screws in pic,i removed the white thing and it has a circut board inside,so i put it back in.
the obc continued to work with this removed.
so i think this is where my problem lies.
is this the part i need to replace or can it be repaired?or is this not the part that causes the prob?any help here is welcome.
tia emoticon .

the bulbs for the display are on a circuit board on the side of the unit at the top corner
long nose pliers on it and slide it out,
the bulb you changed lights up the buttons,

You can get the light boards from BMW around £22 or you can get bulbs and solder them yourself for around 80p. The correct ones are 5v 60ma, if you want I'll have a look around for my "spare" bulbs, I got them from RS Components and they only sell them in bags of 10. The part No is 360-7890.

Let me know and I'll have a look emoticon
