Sub for the pc

Hey guys I'm looking for suggestions on a subwoofer design for my computer. It doesn't have a complete speaker system with subwoofer so I thought I would play around with something. Brad had suggested my driver so thanks to him for that. I'm not looking for anything monstrous, just something I can feel the bass a little when I'm listening to music or what not. I also don't know how to connect the sub to the pc. I'm guessing I'll be using a 4" driver powered by a 25w-50w plate amp. How is the connection made from the pc? Is there an audio line out I need to tap into? My pc is a 3 year old HP with two small speaks. How can I do this? Thanks guys. emoticon

You more than likely have on that comp what is called onboard sound which means that the sound is built in to the motherboard as opposed to being a seperate card. What you are looking for is the green jack. You need to either buy or make a cable that consists of a 1/8" mini plug that terminates to two male rca's. Knowing you, you probably have some of these laying around. The green jack (or FL/FR) output is of course full range so you will have to adjust the LPF on the plate amp to somewhere around 80-120 for a woofer of that size. That little Vifa can kick out some lows.... I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah I kinda figured that's what I needed to do. Now, by using the pc's sound jack for the sub, I'd be losing my two sat speaks right? That would sound like **** if all I had was the sub lol. How can I run all three speaks at once? The pc speaks are run off the mini plug line that I would be using for the sub. I did get a 25w plate amp but I'm not sure how to wire (if possible) the two smaller speaks in junction with the sub.

sounds like you should be able just to get a 3.5mm splitter jack and then connect both things into the soundcard.

Just an update. Got the sub and plate amp. Built the little box for it and decided to splice into one of the wires going to one of the two pc speaks as suggested. Works wonderfully!! That little ****er of a 4" sub really moves lol. I love speakers and this little guy puts out so to speak lol. Good value and got what I wanted. emoticon
