Emlyn Williams played the opportunistic Snobby Price in Gabriel Pascal's 1940 film adaptaion of George Bernard Shaw's Major Barbara. What did you think of the film? of his performance?

I thought he was very effective! Major Barbara is among my favorite movies, and his Snobby Price was very effective and added a lot to the enjoyment.
My favorite scene is when his mother catches up to him and hauls him off. Hilarious, after Snobby Price has been bragging all over town that he used to beat her up.

I thought the film was a bit stuffy (and I usually like old films!) but I thought his performance was the highlight of the film! I wanted to find out more about Snobby!

Me too ... the second half of the film was just stultifying, wasn't it? On the other hand, I saw the play on Broadway, and in that production, the second half was even better than the first, thanks to another of my favorite character actors, David Warner, in the role of Undershaft. So I think so much of it depends on the actors. (Which is why I generally tend to see films more for who's in the cast than for the subject matter!) I would so love to have a videotape of that Broadway performance and splice the second half of it onto the first half of the film; I think I'd be in heaven!
Snobby was cute and really funny with his two-faced conniving (love when his mother shows up ... and when he so blatantly explains to Rummy Mitchins what he's up to!), but I found Robert Newton's performance (also in the first half) really memorable as well. They're two of my favorite scene stealers, and I love seeing them try to outdo each other. (The final showdown between them comes in "Hatter's Castle," where it's one dastardly villain versus the other!)
