It definitely could, the "best" cheap way I *think* I've seen it done so far is using the metal tiki torch stakes from Wal-Mart (the Rag ground is very, very hard), the having wooden poles (PVC would also work) run up about 4-5ft. Then just tie off squares of fabric between these poles (little holes are drilled in the PVC, or hooks are added to them, to "catch" the fabric).
We have a pretty good plot of land to cover... I don't hav e actual dimensions off-hand, though.

I'm just thinking - what will keep the poles from tilting in toward each other, or tipping over from the force of wind against the fabric?
That's the reason I was thinking PVC with T-connectors - you could put a top rail along that would stabilize the upright supports, and the fabric could just be connected to the top rail, and maybe the bottom of the uprights if it looks like there won't be a breeze-tippage problem.
Then again, I've never been to a Ragnarok, so I could just be making things way more difficult than needs be 
As for the campsite....I had heard whisperings of the group trying to get a site closer to the treeline so there would be more shade?

We should have, approximately, the same space and same amount of real estate this year... but we need to fit more people into that space... the other alternative would have been to "spread out" but go wayyyyyyy down way past Mirkwood (not an appealing option). The exact amount of space is contingent on pre-regs... and the vibe I'm getting right now is we're kinda sucking in terms of pre-regs, I have some concerns our space will be slightly shrunk even though we have more people attending Rag than last year...
As an aside, make sure you pre-reg! Yes, e're running day events which means we get good spots, but if we don't supplement that with proof of a large attendance, we're going to be living like we're in downtown Tokyo.

If we do go the fabric way, I'm sure we can round up some Joann coupons and get some for $0.99/ yd... but I think a bolt would only cover 30 ft or so.
