Flails...
I'd like to make some decent flails to mess around with, but I thought I'd ask for some advice on construction.
Now, I'd like to make some mid-to-long flails, single-handed, with the weight well-distributed, and bagstyle.
My biggest concerns are:
1) What do I use for the head or how do I make it?
2) How long should I make the shaft? (I use 38" swords, so I want flails that will extend to about that length)
3) How do I counter balance a flail correctly? (This, to me, seems the hardest part.)
I'd appreciate any advice you all could give, and thanks in advance. ^_^
Note: I'm making two for a florentine style, just for fun.

Re: Flails...
i don't know much about flails...i never really use them....
ok dumb joke
anyway for a head you have to remember that it must be 18 inches in every direction. Saying that what i do for a head is buy a foam pool noodle and do like 4 cylinders around it of blue foam and that makes it big enough...that is how i did the flail seen here...

however, i was thinking about doing a flail head with maxyor foam with a few layers of blue foam over it.
also, to be quiet honest if you are wanting flails to be long that's fine but realize a flail is significantly slower than swords expectially long flails.
When you make the bag, pull it all the way over the first lip of foam that you can use that as leverage to minimize stretching of the chain. which by the way when you first make the flail make the neck only like 3 or 4 inches. The Fabric for a bag flail will stretch at least an inch. Mine orginally was just under 4 now it is about 5 and a half inches.

Re: Flails...
Alrighty, thanks. That all sounds good, but what about the weight distribution? Should I be worried about counter-weighting them?

Re: Flails...
use a PVC core on your first one, and dont add the pommel.
Swing it around and play around with it... if you think it needs counterbalancing, shove a stainless steel bolt of appropriate weight up into the bottom of the PVC. Duct tape it in there securely (wrap some duct tape on it as well to eliminate rattling from the inside), and then slap a pommel on. Voila! Easy-as-cake counterbalancing.

Re: Flails...
So it's kinda guess and check for counterbalancing? I don't understand how you're supposed to know what weight to get for the bolt, it could turn out to be not enough or too much. I dunno if that's the case with flails, but it definitely is with swords.
Thanks for everyone's input, by the way. ^_^

yes... its touch and go... there's so many ways to fight with a flail... and it'll all depend on you.

Re: Flails...
Ahahaha, as a matter of fact I hear that it was a burning yellow bus that held some sort of women's sports team.
