Afraid to exercise in public?


Okay, that's me, but here's one tip that helped me:

Observe without mental comment.

It's a Zen tactic, but it works wonders.

If you see a group of people, or maybe just one person-observe them without thinking about them. Just see them. I am apt to think "Oh, no! Those people are staring at me! They think I'm ugly." This is mental comment. Mental comment impedes our progress.
I have now gotten better at walking by people without thinking about my weight. I'm just a person walking. They are just people doing what they are doing.

(Walking is one of my favorite exercises. emoticon )

I used to think people were always looking/talking about me...then I realized no one cares.

Just go out and do what you want, don't let life pass you by because you're afraid. Conquor your fears and just go out and do it...you'll probably find it was no big deal and laugh at yourself afterwards.
