Thank You from Solway Sharks

Hi my name is David and I do the Sharks website, photo's, program etc.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the Freeze (and guest) players who came up to Dumfries last night. Your sportsmanship at the end was superb. THANK YOU.

I look forward to our vist to you next season.

Below is what I posted on our website and on Scotland's Hockey Forum.

Old friends the Flintshire Freeze paid a visit to Dumfries Ice Bowl on Saturday evening to play a challenge match to help the Sharks celebrate their Northern League Championship and give them much needed practice before next weekends Northern League Play-Off's at Whitley Bay.

While the Freeze, who included a number of guest players in their ranks were generally out-gunned by the rampant Sharks they were never afraid to put their bodies in where it hurts and gave Solway a good workout. An early strike by Struan Tonnar on the two minute mark was doubled by Bari McKenzie on15:44 to give the home side a comfortable two-nil first interval advantage.

In the second period goals from Terry Robertson, Frazer Goldie, Robbie Brown and Bari McKenzie stretched the lead to six before Rick Ravey found the net for Flintshire with a fine solo effort. Into the final session and a powerplay strike from Struan Tonnar was complemented by goals from Michael Brunton (guesting from Blackburn) and Pavol Melichercik to give a final score line of Sharks 9 Freeze 1.

Special mention should now be made of the excellent sportsmanship displayed at the end of the game by the Freeze players who ASKED if they could stay on the ice while the Sharks supporters player of the year trophies were presented to the team and the Northern League Championship trophy was re-presented to Mark Gallagher in front of the home support. In light of some of the bad sportsmanship displayed by some of our regular opponents your gesture was very much appreciated. Thank You.

Thanks for having us we all had a brilliant day. Was good to see both teams give 100% considering it was only a challenge game even in the last few seconds the Flintshire lads were giving it there all to score .Think it took us a while to get used to the different style of reefing though but guess u guys will have the same problem when you come down to us. Well once again thanks for the game and looking forward to the return leg...Also thank's to mike and Bruce for driving it was much appreciated..
