Have I missed something????
In years gone by it has been said many times that proper procedures are not adhered too in sport. Rumor mongoring and speculation are the forerunners of trouble. I would like to think that we at Flintshire Freeze have followed some form of protocol, however it would appear that this may not be the case. I am hearing various messages about the selection of the new coach from non official sources. This is wrong!! If a new coach has been appointed then can we please have an official notice posted to that effect. Furthermore it has been said that the person appointed applied outside of the terms of application set out by the management, if that is true could we also have some statement from the management as to why that was allowed.
I do not wish to be seen to be trying to upset any body but I do believe that the correct and proper procedures should be followed in order to create ethical and professional standards.

Re: Have I missed something????
I am no longer the press officer so this is not an official press release.
I can tell you that post of head coach has not been given to Mike Martin or Gary Shaw
these were the only two applicants that applied for the job with in the timescale set out in the job application set by Flintshire county council which had a closing date of 30-4-09.
The other criteria for the post was that you must have a level two ENHL coaching certificate.
The post has been given to a person that failed to meet both criteria for the job application as set down by Flintshire county council.
Procedure has not been followed and it seems like the old boy network has kicked in and I do not wish to be associated with any underhand dealings that are going on at the club hence my decision to leave
Although I was only at the club for about 18 months I can walk away with my hands clean and my head held high and knowing I gave a lot of free time and effort to get the club moving forward, but the recent decision has just put the club back years so I had no alternative really.

Re: Have I missed something????
I would just like to add to this that the rink can change the rules as they please if they wanted to and there must be a reason for them to do this!!!
Also every coach should be given a chance to prove themselves and that is what should be done this season coming up! Mike was given a chance last season an it was probably one of the worst seasons I have watched!!
How can anyone on here possibly say that they enjoyed watching last season????
Everytime the games ended or even the periods ended the players looked so disheartened! I have never seen so many players leave or apparently been told to leave thoughout a season!! There was no rules at all and people probably took the P**s because of this!!
I personally had to put up with alot of moaning about the way it was being run off all different people who was not enjoying the playing for the Freeze but didnt want to give up because they feared they would let their team down so they put up with it!!
I am looking forward to this season and Im really looking forward to watching the games and hopefully at how well the coach will teach them and prove all of you that are doubting him that he is more than qualified for the job even if its not on paper!!!
Good luck to the new freeze coach!!!!!!

Re: Have I missed something????
I dissagree the coaching was terrible last season the team on paper should of walked the league with ex elite and epl experienced players.
I wish the new coach all the look in the world.....
Oh and it would be nice if people used there own names on the forum instead of hiding behind a user name!!
This is directed to the last post!!!

Re: Have I missed something????
Hi Vince and all genuine Freeze fans, unfortunately due to currently not having a web master the Freeze/FCC have yet to make an official press release. This is unfortunate due to the rumour mongering and speculation which has followed since the appointment of Mark Hobson as Caretaker coach of the Flintshire Freeze.
Mark and Nigel along with DLC management hope to get together this coming week then hopefully we can release something ASAP to answer some of your questions and concerns.
As for Pete Sheffields comments regarding putting the club back years, I’m personally sorry you feel this way but feel you are wrong, already actions have been take by Mark Hobson that will see a much fitter and more organised Freeze team take to the ice on the opening day of the season.
As to Boatrunner, I feel you need to get your facts right before you start adding comments to this forum! Mark has never been sacked by the freeze, but is true after being unsuccessful in his application a few seasons ago to become Freeze assistant coach took up a roll as assistant coach in Manchester. The following year Mark was asked to make the step up and become coach which he accepted to great effect, taking a lesser team ( than the Freeze, in my opinion and that of others) into the playoffs resulting in them achieving promotion!
Now just to put you straight Boatrunner, Mark was told, not asked, to step down as coach to become assistant with only two games remaining! Mark being very disappointed made the decision to step down as coach and assistant coach to Manchester.
Boatrunner I don’t know who you are but I think you need to think before adding posts as your comments are very damaging to the Flintshire Freeze when untrue!

Re: Have I missed something????
My beef is not with Mark Hobson being appointed as head coach, I am sure Mark will do well he has been around hockey a long time and has been involved with succesful hockey teams in the past.
My problem is with the DLC management and the way they have handled it.
They have not been honest and open .
Some level one coaches were not given a fair chance to apply for the position because of the wording of the job application and also it was not made clear at any later date that level one coaches were eligable to apply for the position yet a level one coach was appointed.
A lot of people gave their time and sometimes great expense to make hockey happen at Flintshire and the least they can expect is for everyone to be treated fairly without any hidden agenda or nepotism.
I do wish Mark and the team all the best for the future and hope hockey in Flintshire can continue to move forward

Re: Have I missed something????
I would also like to clear something up, I too have no problem with Hobbo, I think he is an excellent coach. My issues are with the rink management in just the same way as Pete has said in the previous post. They have not followed procedure and thus good people who volountarily put many hours into the Freeze feel quite rightly let down. All I ask is for the powers that be to be open and honest, follow correct procedure and do right by the people that matter. In the end therefore any result can only be respected by the team and the fans. Hobbo I wish you all the best and look forward to a great season ahead particularly with the recent outcome from the EIHA AGM.
Finally I would also like to say to the fans, please do not judge last years issues and results purely on the coach, many of the problems both on and off the ice were brought about by certain individuals on the team who tried for some unknown reason to create a bench of unrest. This in turn put a great deal of pressure on the management and coaching staff, who had some very awkward decisions to make at a very difficult time in the season. I hope that for Hobbo's sake the individuals in question either do not return or if they do will repect him as a coach and remember that hockey is a team sport and everyone on the bench constitutes the team and therefore deserve full respect and committment.
Enough soapbox, Fans and all I hope to see you all down at the rink soon, Danny was injured before the end of the season and is fighting to get back to fitness but he will be up and pushing hard I am sure ready for the next season soon.
