Knowle Hill, Derbyshire

Anyone who has stayed at the Landmark Trust property at Knowle Hill Derbyshire must have ventured into the two underground rooms hewn out of the solid red sandstone. Does anyone have any knowledge of what they were for? The tunnel to them has niches for candles and what looks like a wine rack carved out of stone, so the assumption is they were for pleasure, but has anyone found any documentary evidence as regards dates and intentions?
