Ackleton Folly

I was wondering if anybody could shed any light on Shropshire Follies. I have recently signed the lease on a restaraunt in Ackleton, called The Folly. I am trying to find out why this is so called. Any helpful answers will earn a free pint!

Re: Ackleton Folly

Aren't you near the village of Badger? There used to be a landscape park there called Badger Dingle and two of its 18thC follies still remain. One is a domed rotunda but the most likely candidate is a temple, formerly called the Bird House or Pigeon House. This sits upon a wooded cliff and can be hired out through the Landmark Trust. Perhaps this folly could once be seen from your pub/restaurant when the trees were young of age. Just an idea.
