Map Updates 6

Just back from a week long folly hunting trip to Yorkshire. Got lots of photos and found a few new follies as well.

Added Akebar caravan park folly near Leyburn

Image

Added Ann Boleyns Seat at Studley Park
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525221

Image

Added Bolton Hall Tower near Wensley
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525417
Was walking along the footpath that passes in front of Bolton Hall and saw this tower in the woods by chance.

Image

Added Hackfall Gothic Kitchen
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525478
Situated right next to the Mowbray Point Ruin folly

Image

Added Hackfall Sandbank Hut
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525554
The remains of a small folly from which Mowbray Castle folly could be seen down the river

Image

Added Kiplin Hall Folly
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525590
Was visiting Kiplin Hall and just happened to glance out of a window across the lake and saw this folly

Image

Added Marske Hall Folly
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525622
Saw this through a hedge whilst trying to find a better viewpoint for Huttons Monument. It is a wall of arches between 2 ponds in the ornamental gardens to the hall

Image

Added Sorrelsykes Gate
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525680
Sandwiched between the Rocketship and The Pepperpot follies is this small gate folly

Image

Added Sorrelsykes Sham Ruin
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525694
A lot of this folly has collapsed, see this link for how it used to look

Image

Added Studley Obelisk
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525706

Image

Added Studley Serpentine Tunnel

I have replaced some of the photos with ones I have taken, this is so I contribute as much of my own work to this project as possible and not to create it purely from other peoples photos.

Arnagill Tower
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1525228
This photo replaces the original Arnagill tower one as it was not the folly but a sighting tower for when they put a pipeline from the reservoir across the moors, this tower is about a mile away and the round trip journey to get the photo involved 4 miles of rough track in a 4WD vehicle and 1/2 mile trek across heather covered moorland!!

All in all a great week of folly hunting, We stayed near Leyburn and all the follies were within 20 miles, really enjoyed the walk around Hackfall woods and the visit to Forbidden corner.(couldn't make the event there as we were in Spain at the time)
Finding the new ones was great, just goes to show what you can find by chance.
