 Sugar Loaves Found!
Hello everyone, today I found the very elusive Sugar Loaves folly eye catcher hidden deep within woods at Werrington Park Cornwall. This bewildering folly orginally served as an eye catcher to the estate's manor house when it was built, probably in the late 18th century. Since then a large wood has grown up around it, completely obscuring it from view, and visitors..
This folly may not have been seen for many many years, the late Barbara Jones visited it way back in the 1950's, before the trees grew up. There is a very good photo of it in her book, "follies".
My photographs will look somewhat different as the folly is now beautifully covered in ivy !

Loved your description of finding The Loaves. I am green with envy. What a treasure! Great pics.
Looks so mysterious and almost spooky. How I would love to stumble upon a sight like this.

Hello Donna, Glad you like the site. Finding the Werrington loaves is one of my favourite folly hunting experiences to date, I have very fond memories of it. Perhaps I shall visit it again someday, when I am an old, old man. (If I can still make the journey through the woods that is!)
