Re: What kinds of Music !?
Very very mixed taste here too, depends on mood
Reggae, brought up with it, a story I'll tell you one day Not so much modern dance hall, and I loath rap and what is currently known as R&B. But Lovers, Rock Steady, Blue Beat, Ska and of course Bob Marley
Modern Jazz Love this music, love the 1950's Beep Bop and Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan Saxophone. Also Later stuff by Louise Armstrong, Bicks Beiderbecke, even some of the classical cross over stuff like Jaques Luisierre. (I've said too much, I can tell )
And rock, I like Artic Monkeys, Oasis, Anastasia, more recently I like Green Day, Elbow and The Kings of Leon are superb
Over the years I've fell in and out of love withh all kinds of music, but I listen to it constantly, I never go anywhere without my MP3 player
"This week, I'll be mostly listening to Art Blakey"

Re: What kinds of Music !?
I love most music from the 1960s onwards, I was not even born then though! and have always loved obscure or alternative stuff I was well into hip hop when I was a teen in the 1980s before it took off and later into the Mod/Ska thing.
I have a large collection of CDs and an increasing selection of vinyl which covers most music styles from The Carpenters to Metallica and Marillion.
I dislike Country & Western and most of the pop music that is played 85 times everyday on commercial radio.
I love Classic Rock, Progressive Rock and big into rootsie reggae stuff. In the last few years I've been listening to Classical - Dinnertime Jazz and ambient.
All time forever favourites which will always stay in my personal collection are:
Leonard Cohen - Bob Dylan - Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground - The Doors - Pink Floyd - Cat Stevens - Led Zeppelin - Early Genesis - The Who - Neil Young - Barclay James Harvest - Roots Reggae / soundsystem / Dub and many more, far to many to list!!
Newer stuff I have:
REM - Blur - Kings Of Leon - Eels - Radiohead - David Gray - and loads more.

Re: What kinds of Music !?
Hey! I grew up in the punk era (I left school in 1976) and I lived in the south east at the time as well. Now days I like to claim I was "into it" but truth be told, I hated it then Now it brings back loads of memories.
My best mate at the time was into punk mega, real punky stuff, we used to go to see my bands, nearly always reggae, and his stuff always punk, alternately. I saw Sex Pistols at The Hope and Anchor in Islington during their early(ish) days, Electric Chairs, Pork Dukes, Sousix and The Banshees, Buzz****s and loads of other at the Marquis. I would like to say it was brilliant, and looking back it has got better In reality I thought it was crap at the time
Saw, David Bowie no less than 7 times!! and loads of reggae greats like Gregory Isaacs at Brixton Accademy (I have to say the gig was rubbish as the sound sytem sounded like an Amstrad hifi set, and my brother got mugged in the loo's)
Its amazing though looking at the lists above, reggae is a real common theme
Jazz has been my latest love tbh, not dinner jazz only but a little off the wall stuff, the more you listen to it the deeper you can get into it. My freinds come around and I put my music on, I get "wtf is this crap?" hohum
BTW another of my absolute all time favorites, and the only "punk" that did it for me was Elvis Costello, saw him twice once in Lewisham and the second time after he made it big at Wembly Arena, great music dozens of albums
What a great subject to post in the VP
