MFW New CB Radio Edition to Shack - October 09
This is my new legal well almost legal radio for the room, it's only a standard 40Ch EU and 40Ch UK 27/81 FM CB radio home base, I liked the look of it though, it's Japanese made and it has a quality aluminium front panel and can be mains powered or use 12v, it has a scan function too and FM speech processor. It's been doctored from being a 40Ch EU only set to include the 40 UK 27/81 channels, it also has had the output on high power increased to 20 watts, the low power setting is 4 watts, and there is a cooling fan installed at the rear which clicks in at a certain temperature.
Anyway I have yet to make a contact on it, I have tried a number of occasions to break in to some local CB operators but to no avail, either it's ignorance on behalf of the operators or the set may have a problem, there is audio coming out and it is putting 20w into a test meter and i'm pretty sure my Imax 2000 is fine.
It's been so long since I have used a CB Radio legally I forget how to! saying that though FM CB so far is miles away from what it used to be, I don't want to sound like the elite but the freeband SSB and lower HF operators are definitely a cut above some of the bucket mouths using the CB Radio around here, intelligence and manners wise.
Ah Well Breaker Breaker 14 for a copy... or is it 19!

Re: MFW New CB Radio Edition to Shack - October 09
There's still some interesting contacts to be had on FM CB - over the Summer there were periods of skip which had most of Europe coming in on the EU block, and some nice short Sporadic E which had some nice contacts going between various parts of the UK.
There's also a few Nets that run which see groundwave contacts running to 150 miles+
Nice Satcom radio.
Cheers

I will definitely be listening out on 27 MHz FM for some Sporadic E local skip from England and places, I used to enjoy working it on my Commtron CB40F 4 watt UK 27/81 way back when I was a teen, that TS850s might be getting replaced soon with a TS870.

Re: MFW New CB Radio Edition to Shack - October 09
Some Russia coming in on the EU FM the other day - Germany is very commonplace and often other Eastern European stations can be easily worked.
Quite a bit of 29 Division during the early summer, but not heard much from that way recently.
Cheers.
