Antennas

Hello
I haven't been active on the EC bands since before the the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01.Over the past year or so I've been momitoring there a little. I haven't heard any stations from your side of the lake but heard activity in the western USA and some along the East Coast. When I was active my antenna was nothing special, I force fed a 125 foot wire with a Dentron ATU.I think I may start using this playground again due to the current state of propogation on 11 meters.Just curious of what you guys are using for antennas on the EC bands??How well would a G5RV work for the EC bands??If I get something up in the air soon maybe we can set up a sked here.

Re: Antennas

I use a G5RV through an ATU for my activities on EC, it works pretty well, not as good as a dedicted ant but I can work what I hear generally. Its a full size one running north south.

Would be great to see if we can get accross to the US, so far only managed Europe, but then thats all I've heard on EC. I reckon 86metre would be a good bet.

Get the G5RV up and give us a shout we'll see emoticon emoticon

I am a baker by trade and my work slows down from a 50- hour week to around 40 hours/week after the holidays. This lull in work will give me more time to play radio.I should be able to get something up in the air by mid-January.I'm not sure what route I will go with an antenna,I was thinking a windom or a half square.I will be going to a hamfest (I think you guys would say Radio Rally)in early January so I will be able to buy a G5RV or parts to roll my own antenna.I'll keep you posted.

PS do you use a call sign on EC ?? If so can you post it so I would know if I hear you??

Cool, would be good to find some alternative antenna types for EC.

I use the call sign FB1, but most users only use a call sign for CQ then first names.

You might consider a loop antenna in the attic.

Wow that looks really interesting emoticon

Where will the balun go? At the start of the ladder line?

Have you bought the Junior version?

Be really interested to know hoe well this works, looks like a proper job emoticon
