Hi,

I managed my first freebanding qsos in the last weeks, I worked quite well but there is a question:

The term for greetings is 73, i know. Some gave me 51. What do they mean with 51?

73's and 51's basically means best wishes to you and yours, all the best goodbye. usually said at the end of a QSO(conversation) emoticon hello by the way and welcome emoticon

Good question Jimmy, I can not find the history to 51, only 73.

So the answer is, I dont know. I know why it is said and what it means, but why and what the history is, I have no idea. If you find out post it here so we can all learn emoticon

In german Radio 55 is common for "good luck", i think it is unknown in other countries. But I never heared 51 bevore ;-)

it's a abbrevation from morse code ,try calling dave 01 on saturday for plenty 73's & 51's emoticon

it used to be 73 and 51. if i remember 51 means (love and good wishes)= "73-51 goodbye, love and goodwishes till next time"
