Re: 27A boomerang balcony

I thought I would write my review of this antenna first, to get it out of the way emoticon

This is likely to be the worst performing 11m band antenna I have ever come accross. SWR ing the thing took ages up and down a ladder as not only does the small adjustment on the ground plane alter the swr, but the angle of the thing does as well.

Once I got a semi decent SWr, I found it was incredibly narrow and outside of the 40 channels 27/81 the swr went up.

I couldnt hear stations that I could hear before, even off of a mobile antenna fixed to the garage roof! It wouldnt get out nearly as well as the mobile antenna. Also I noted that it was directional. I suppose this should be fairly obvious considering its configuration.

My advice is dont go near these with a barge pole unless you need a big dummy load emoticon

Scores 1 out of 5 (For scrap value)

Re: 27A boomerang balcony

i have just put mine back up in the loft to get a bit of vertical..
The bandwith is rubbish, i think i counted 30 channels of good(ish)SWR. I did manage to get it too 1.2 on the meter for 27.555 but this ment it was high on ch19(UK)no loss there then emoticon ). It is tricky to SWR as the tiniest of movements in the bottom adjuster really make big diferences. I have got into europe using it indoors and have had some groundwave about 8 miles away(i live on a hill too).
IF I COULD REWIND....
... I wouldnt buy a boomerang, you could get better results building a 1/4 wave vertical out of wire in a loft space with better ground radials which would radiate and perform better. emoticon
