Re: Silver Rod 1/2 wave
A good all-round home base antenna, an end-fed dipole.
Works best if mounted at least its own height above ground, that being a half wave, or about 18 feet, and ideally keep the antenna well away from the de-tuning effect of buildings and trees - once again its own length represents a good minimum.
Tuning is a bit time consuming as it is accomplished by sliding sections in or out to alter the overall length, and after each adjustment you must put the antenna back into position to test the tuning. However, once set and tightened up it is a tough and reliable antenna.

Re: Silver Rod 1/2 wave
works the same as an antron 99, a very basic half wave antenna.
but you save £50 when you buy one instead of an antron 99 (a copper wire in a tube!!)....plus if you bypass the matching coil inside you have a cheap 1/4 wave for 20 metres......

Re: Silver Rod 1/2 wave
But you must not believe the gain figure its just 1.5dBd at best just like all other 5/8.
