Avo meter
Avo meters are not just meters, they are THE meter to have & use.
Well made & heavy (mine weighs over 4.5KG !!!) these meters still go for between £20 & £30 on ebay & if you consider that in 1970 a model 8 cost £34.80 new, thats an almost inflation proof buy.
Mine is a type 1, which is very similar to a model 8.
The type 1 was made for the RAF & the main difference to a model 8 is that the type 1 has a less cluttered & thus simpler to read scale.
Mine was made in July 1950 & has a calibration sticker for the 48 Cyprus workshop REME, dated June 88. The serial number which is found at the bottom right of the scale tells the moth & year of manufacture via the last 3 or 4 digits, first 2 year, last one or two the month.
The only problem with these meters is the battery can be difficult to get, as it's 15 volts.

Re: Avo meter
Is that not a collectors item now? They were as well made as could be in the sixties and seventies but they are hard work indeed compared to what you can get on the market now.
Dr Frankenstien had one didn't he?

Re: Avo meter
They are still readily available & several people I know have said since I mentioned having one, that they still use one "at work," because unlike a modern meter you can see any movement not only as it happens, but more importantly just how it is happening. As a modern meter just attempts to keep up & changes numbers, whilst a Avo meter swings with the changing reading, so you can see exactly what is happening.
