To get a feel for the way 'hams' work, listen between 7.05 and about 7.3MHz - you should hear a fair bit of activity there. Mode used is LSB as is the convention below 10MHZ, with USB above this frequency.

Get used to tuning in those voices - this seems to be something some people have difficulty getting right. Practice doing it by ear rather than assuming the guy is on a round frequency number, as that's cheating!

Don't transmit to anyone!

Great little radios these. I have one in my car, all opened up, works great on EC & 11m.

Listening advice: Go to the RSGB limited url and you will find the bandplans for all the Ham bands. 20m is good for a listen most times, as is 40m. Locally to you the GB3GO repeater is one of a few to listen out for, I was down that way a couple of weeks ago. http://www.ukrepeater.net will let you know of a few others on 2m and 70cm.

Enjoy your radio.

hi, i think to wideband the radio you have to use software and hook up the radio to a PC, heres a link to a page that explains a bit more and i think it has the software needed on it. >>>linky <<<

Hi Simon, nice to see someone else in N Wales, beginning to think I was the only one, feels like it these past few weeks anyway! Have to listen out for you on 555 when I am up the mountain.
