Re: 40 metres today

i think its more of a "big deal" to euro and eastern euro stations, the north american stations are more laid back as they have seen it all and seem a bit older and wiser..NO NEED TO SHOUT!!
but having said that, they all seem to use 1500w into 6ele beams with a 70" boom.

Hi Lads if you want to hear the better Ham operators, have a listen to 1.933 Late evenings.
Ive been listening to these old boys for years and there is nothing they wont talk about. Please dont try and call in if your an M3 or M6 as they will bite your head off....lol

Hi Jon, and all, entertaining stuff down there on the 1.933MHz net, I think Simon (FB244) said he calls in there every once in a while and gives them a bit of jip (in a good way!) emoticon

check out the link for some of the regulars.

I liked this bit on their site:

"Operation is VOX or PTT and anything more than one sentence without a break is considered to be along over."

That's good. emoticon
Too often I'll hear some guy lecturing on how his allotment is doing, for example, for 10 or 15 minutes.

Perhaps I could start a pressure group:
FLIPPIN' ACCEPT THOSE SHORT OVERS
or FATSO for short...

Re: 40 metres today

its a real tough one.i dont dig of the way some newbies inc myself have been dissed but its like a dog realising a persons fear of it.once over the nerves and fear of being bollocked (i no longer give a toss)and sound a fair decent op on air which adds up to now being treated as equall.
as a hobby/passtime ,one would have thought it sholuld be way more chilled than it is but the double edged sword is that because many ops treat it so seriously,a lot can be learned about operating practices especially in working massive pile ups.
Be yourself, tell the bad uns to worry about their own practices and use as much of the speccy as you can cause theres always good dx to be had.
