What 2m antenna??
right, i'm after a decent 2m antenna and there is so many around with all diferent gain figures i dont know whats best(apart from going by price?). I suppose a dual band would best suit just so if i get the urge i can try it out up there. I think in time i will try and build a beam for a bit of ssb on 2m but that wont be straight away, so wats wat with 2m antennas?

Re: What 2m antenna??
Watson W-300 is good alround colinear antenna for 2m/70cms. But for DX you'll need a beam, but try it first

Re: What 2m antenna??
I built a 2m beam from copper pipe, still have it here, worked brilliantly, but I'm not a big 2m fan and VHF lifts are rarer than hens teeth atm
What rotator do you have Paddy?

Re: What 2m antenna??
I use a lightweight TV rotator for £30 turning my 4 element beam works no problems, been up since November 07.
I put it up figuring I would change it if it broke, and it hasn't yet Went a bit loose for a while but a bit of a service and its fine now

Re: What 2m antenna??
i'm not too sure i will be using a beam for 11m, i think i'm goin to stick with a antronn 99 and radial kit on a 20 foot pole at bottom of garden. The 2m antennas will probably be higher than the 11m vertical but i wont be using it for groundwave. I'm hoping to get antennas for the lower bands if you know what i mean using my 2m mast as a center point(lighter antennas higher up)

Re: What 2m antenna??
Hopefully there's a picture of the mark 2 Moxon above.....17 metre band and this one's 6 metres wide and turned by an ickle Yaesu G250.
See how you fare on HF Paddy before you waste too much effort on 2 m and 70 cms....two completely different camps I'm starting to realise with 2 metre users around here being a bit too shy to call on HF.....happy to talk about what they can hear but not joining in...I go blundering straight in cheers,Dave.
Jeez, sorry about the size of that piccie.....can anyone retrospectively shrink it please?
Edit no.2 Build a J pole antenna Paddy,it's cheap and works well, can be made dual or triple band too.....mines in the loft but I can work to Verwood just north of Bournemouth using 2.5 watts from my ancient FT290R mk 1.

Re: What 2m antenna??
A Watson-300 is a good all round 2m and 70cm omni directional antenna, it's about 9ft tall, if you are going to go for SSB activity I would suggest a beam of some description mounted horizontally.
