2m handhelds?
Quite fancy one of these to play with, not used 2m yet and dont want one in the car, just for taking up the hills when walking, holls etc. Just for local and repeaters. Any recomendations or any I should stay away from? Should I go for dual band-anything happen on 70?
Thanks Al

Re: 2m handhelds?
FT -60e is my favourite 2m/70cm handheld, its a proper quality little radio highly recommended, can use it in the car as well, with a magmount aerial and a external mic. Battery lasts for ages but you can use 12v supply if you wanr as well.
Unfortunately Al I just sold mine
I now have a Kenwood TH-F7E, it smaller than the Yaesu and the quality doesnt strike you as good. Still works as well on 2m, I dont like the way the squelch is adjusted on the Kenwood, but I have an arra of telescopic antennas for it. It can recieve SSB right accross the spectrum. Still good TX on 2m/70cms as well.
I went walking the other week and took it up the hills. With the 20m aerial fitted it can receive most of the HF band SSB an all I have a moddified telescopic aeril from a Midland portapack CB and this allows me to recieve 11m from this little handheld cool eh? Now all we need is one that will TX accross the bands

Re: 2m handhelds?
Just noticed that a lot of the contacts being made on 2m are on ssb for which the HH would be no good for, guess I would need an 817 maybe? God I wish I could make a decission easier! Still its spos to be fun shopping round-so wife tells me anyway!
Still fancy a basic HH to play with for now till I decide otherwise. And this was going to be a quick, straight forward purchase!lol

Re: 2m handhelds?
i have just today bought on ebay this HH for 2m jingtong 208 .. I know its not yeasu or kenwood but it was £30 on ebay and i found a site with some mods for it, just thought it would be a cheap little toy to try out repeaters and stuff while i'm shackless. could always sell it for the same on ebay i spose if i want something better, after all i have the Icom 706 to use SSB if i want. I nearly bought one of the Puxing HH off of ebay from hong kong but stumbled over this one which was cheaper. heres a review by a uk radio ham on the Jingtong(i love the name,, lmao reminds me of little britain for some reason)

Re: 2m handhelds?
Have looked at the Jingtong but I have come back to the Kenwood, I like the idea of being able to listen to ssb wherever I am. Non on ebay so looking on Junksale now

Re: 2m handhelds?
Kenwood TH-F7E is what I want, same as Dave has, sounds as if it does all I want. Let me know if you gonna bid on one, dont want to bid against each other, I guess we both want a bargain!
