receive needle problem?
well the receive needle on my ranger works perfectly on am/fm but on ssb it doesnt work. the radio receives fine the needle just doesnt move on ssb receive. seems strange that it works on the other modes just not ssb. my friend was out with me today in his 4x4 and he wasnt making the needle move?

Re: receive needle problem?
if the needle swings on transmit, at least you know the meter is not at fault.
could be the little tranny that drives the meter on the rx side - i wouldnt have a clue about where that is tho - have you checked the swr switch isnt a bit sticky? just an idea.
after a bit of thought, i thibnk the meter gets its signal from one side of the reference crystal, so it should work on ssb as well as am/fm.
im going to suggest a dodgy connection or dry joint somewhere. let me know what occurs.
--- If it Aint broke, don't fix it, and if you do, don't tell anyone you touched it

Re: receive needle problem?
i have found out that there are 2 adjusters for s-meter, vr-1 for am/fm s-meter and vr-2 for ssb s-meter. i havnt looked inside it yet but will do later on. the s-meter goes up n down with modulation on ssb so i dont think its the meter maybe vr-2 is dodgy or turned right down. i will let you know how i get on

Re: receive needle problem?
well i took the back off and pot vr2 was turned right down, it looked in the same position as the am/fm pot vr1 but obviously has to be turned the oposite way, all sorted

Re: receive needle problem?
both vr1 and vr2 were turned fully clockwise, i turned vr2 the opposite way and it turned the needle up. so it was just turned off at vr2 so all sorted. i knew it wasnt much cos it worked on everything else receive and went up with mod on ssb. i love the radio, looking like a cobra'ish and having the ranger name. i think the only thing i like the look of better is the galaxy i'm bidding on.. lol ok maybe the SS158EDX looks nice too
