Help Key the Mic and nothing!!!


I Know before any tells me off, I found a power mod for my Euro 3900 and tweeked my SSB to 20watts, this was 5watts short of max. but now when I key the mic nothing happens? I have put the VR back to its original position but still not working have i bust the output tranny or is it something simple??? Help

I have now dropped rig at the doctors he reckons I may have blown outputs!! Lesson learned and advice to anyone who thinks same as me (If you dont know what you doing LEAVE IT ALONE!

thats a bummer, ive never done the power on anything. turned up the audio n needles but never power, i guess thats a lesson emoticon let the burner do the work and save the life of outputs in rigs emoticon

I fully agree with leaving power settings alone. Boosting the output from, say, 10 watts to 20 watts represents a measly 3dB increase in power, which unless you are right down in the noise on someone else's receiver, will make no noticeable difference, although it stresses the heck out of the output stage.

10dB, though, is a worthwhile increase and represents multiplying the power by 10. You'll need an additional stage for this, but this is available cheaply as a good ol' burner, as you know. It's what they are made for, let it do the work. emoticon

Anyhow, most output transistors of this type aren't too expensive (2SC1969?) so hopefully not too much to panic about.

Thanks for that Hot Fusion, Doctor reckons not expensive if only outputs gone I have asked him to do MOT on it to check its spot on. not so much panic as annoyance with myself for messin about in first place. as I say lesson learned and gettin grief of her indoors doesnt help.

Hi all, GOOD News from the doctor. Ouputs not blown, I had adjusted Bias Voltage??!!. £20 for the fix and M.O.T. he has adjusted alignment and put it back to correct settings. Will be picking it up tomorrow. emoticon
