Albrecht AE485S anygood?
right i have one of these radios and just have a couple of questions.
when i last stopped using the radio the Albrecht had just surfaced and i never got to use one or hear anyone using one. I have always been old skool when it comes the CB sidebanders and it had to be Uniden board or equivalent as they had the loud punchy audio. I spoke to my missis the other day on ssb and she was on my MK1 Cobra 148, i have to say it sounded awesome(as i remember they do)and i know the mike helps alot and the Astatic was obviously helping it sound good. I havnt heard the Albrecht yet as its in the jeep and i've been having a few probs with the set up.
right, has anyone got there view on the Albrecht, what does it sound like compared to a cobra with a standard mic? What does it sound like with a power mic? Is it Tinny sounding like the Cibernet board ssb radios?
i'm thinkin of using the Cobra mobile as i can use it with the Burner i have. The Albrecht being 25watts i was going to use at home as i cant use power at home, ive just bought a Adonis desk mic and was going to wire it up for the Albrecht BUT if the Albrecht doesnt sound good i will probably buy another radio. all views wellcomed

dude, sell it.
the general consensus of opinion is that, although they look nice and have a decent coverage, they suffer from crummy audio and adjacent channel rejection.
I had one in the car and it was totally uninspiring - it just wasnt a nice rig to use, which is a shame becuase its nice and small and puts out a reasonable amount of power.
Even worse is the bloody useless Albrecht walkie talkie, AE201. God-awful load of rubbish...couldnt hear a thing on it, and no-one could hear me. kept it for a month and lost my voice trying to get a contact on the thing!
Go for one of these new Rangers, they get quite a good review.

thnx for that, i had a vage memory of people saying they had weak audio when i last lost intrest in the radio but never heard or tried one. I am now lookin for a new mobile ssb radio.

a lincoln is about three million times better than an albrecht, thats for sure. Sorry, my mum told me a zillion times not to exaggerate!

i think ive sorted a ranger vr9000 and a friend is having the albrecht for his jeep, think ive just got someone else into ssb instead of just the boring muppets.

yeh i love the ranger, nearly bought another one but it went for too much dosh. there is another one on ebay but i rekkon it will go up silly, stil i'll keep my eyes open as i want another radio

The new rOHs version of the 485s is made in china, then re-configured and worked in Korea and then finally when it lands in Germany they are inside it again there to make it work.
I had 4 of them in 1 month, they never lasted more than 15 minutes without drifting, choppy audio and the inside is a mess, now with different solder it is useless. Timely quotes when i complained included:
"Stability" Maybe you have the room heated a lot so best to turn it down
"Mobile" Sometimes when the radio is shaken its bad for it
"We have none of these bad, your the first" when the dealer told me he had more bad ones than reliable ones.
In the end, Albrecht sent me a used non rOHs version which was scratched and not the best condition and told me have this AND not bother us more
