Re: SD 27 Dipole

This antenna was very cheap in comparison to many others. I remember from my previous freebanding days that horizontal is far better for DX distance than vertical. So I bought this antenna with a view to being able to have it both ways to try it out.

It worked vertical but I just didnt feel I was getting out as well as I should have been. I had a contact with a chao just ten miles away and he could only just hear me. Even with 40w.

I turned it horizontal. And bingo ten times the difference. It was slightly worse on the FM CB channels but hey, I dont use them except for the odd mic test etc.

The only problem was its now directional. So I bought a cheap TV antenna rotator. Now the station is getting bigger! Anyway its pretty good with many international contacts already. I still dont feel though its as good as it should be. I've raised it to about 20 meters, but I want more performance from my antenna.

So I building a four element beam.

Not sure how I'm going to break it to the missus yet emoticon

Hi yamanx1

if the guy that was 10 miles away had his antenna polarized horizontal then you having your in vertical would be the answer to your problem and also most CB FM users have vertical polarised antenna hence the problem there.

Dipoles are not that good as they have 0db gain compared to beams, 5/8 ths etc

you done right with the beam and i am sure you will have noticed the difference, apart from those who have vertical antenna.

i wonder if their is a rotator that gives vert/ horiz positioning as well as 360 degrees

Have one here and it works really well on the horizontal but the man to speak with is Palle 47SD151 he swears by his and it works well, made his signal a hell of a lot better than it was in the old days
