Co-Phased Vertical 5/8 pair!

I spent two days going up and down in the cherry-picker putting this little baby up. So far very good reports 3 s points improvement. did 1/2 wave comparison and its giving 5db over dipole oooh yeh, bit tight on bandwidth though only 800 khz between 2:1 SWR points. Its enough for the 555 though. I couldn't get all the 80' tree in the picture but the yaght mast holding the top one up is 24' long to give some perspective. The phase-matching is done by westflex103 coils 52.5' long which gives 8 degrees of downtilt on the pattern and the best overall sig reports. All I have to do now is work out how to post a picture!!!!!

Hi John, sounds like a nice antenna, if you download a program called photobucket you can upload the pictures from your computer, resize them if needed and get the codes needed to place them on your postings, it took me a few times but i got it eventually.

Well done - sounds like a very competent performer especially for when multi-hops begin again on 11m.

I'll be interested to see the picture when you work it out, but is this a co-phase or a colinear?

Yes that was the first test day and been testing furiously ever since!!! to confirm it is a colinear pair fed almost but not quite in phase colinear just means end on end and cophase is driven in phase or out of phase, who knows hey?ie on 5/8 over another 5/8 then separated by half a wavelength for max gain then top one fed at 360 and bottom fed at 540degrees so the patterns multiply each other. its a real sod to harmonise but by adjusting the length of the 360degree coil of coax i can steer the beam down to give downtilt like the broadcast antennae but cheaper of course cos i'm mean!
When the new mast goes up this becomes the bottom half of the total array thats the future plan at the moment.
So far results have been awsome Namibia was s5 and 2 GW contacts report a 2s point increase over my original 1/2 wave and i measured the gain at 5 by attenuation meter, so it definitely works and it's "OMNI".

ps Dave 001 has a pic if i cant upload the soddin pics but im crap with pc's.

[img*] put that in front of link address and [/img*] that at end of address to pic... photobucket does have 4 lines of code with each pic you just copy the image code and paste into body of your post

WITHOUT THE STARS, I HAD TO PUT THEM IN OR IT TRIED TO PUT A PIC IN MY POST(WELL WHITE BOX WITH RED CROSS AS THERE WAS NO PIC)

Nice one Dave they look even bigger than they did from up there and boy oh boy was the world small from up there. I had to climb the top 20' out of the cherry picker because it didnt go high enough! the rush was too much for an old guy and the massive ropes looked awfully puny wheen my life hung on them! TTFN
Thanks for launching the pics Dave I was about to launch my laptop out the window, laptop says thanks too!

wild style baby.really nice work fella. looks like your back yard is a forest with hundreds of big wooden masts!
where dya get the cherry picker mate.5db gain on omni is brilliant(my a99 apparently has 9.9 db gain LOL.its less than a 5/8 silver rod with a gplane ).my 2 quad supposed to be around 7 but would your co phased also increse the signal to noise ratio if there is a lot of qrn/m on the band as opposed to the benifits of side and rear noise rejection of unwanted stations and static reduction with a closed loop/quad?
