Re: Co-Phased Vertical 5/8 pair!
Funny that Brent I thought the same but its so quiet i can leave all the pre-amps on and background noise is workable. I can only explain this by suggesting that maybe the low compressed lobe is not picking up high angle noise and certainly does not get any QRN from the ground up there. I was suprised how well it performed myself. I am surrounded by forest as you rightly said so every antenna needs to go high to avoid tree attenuation. The cherry picker came from southened airport and takes 230kg, a real handy tool that.Unfortunately its only 60' so too low for the top of that baby. john193

Re: Co-Phased Vertical 5/8 pair!
Well I couldn't leave it alone for a week, I've added an eight inch section in the botton phase line and srw wenmt from 1.73 to 1.85? but gain went up 1db( half S unit on my rig at S7. I calc the beam lobe dropped by 2 deg but results are definitely better. I really will try and leave alone untill the weekened but then I have a few other plans. When I work out the pic thing i'll digicam the details. fb193 John

Re: Co-Phased Vertical 5/8 pair!
After a good testing through the skip this year there's no doubt that this is performing a lot better than planed. 5.5dbd excelent s/n ratio and it pulls in qso's where my other radiators just give noise so i'm planning a three element one to be up before winter. the trees about are wondering who's for the chop!! The top element on a 3 needs to be at about 160' according to eznec so gota get busy and select a victim mast bearer, cherry picker is gonna be well outside its comfort zone up there. Anyone gotta a helicopter?

160 feet? That's a 'tall' order... har har.
Semi-serious suggestion:
Could a helium filled ballon(s) support an element or two and the associated phasing lines? Easier to retract in bad werather too?

Re: Co-Phased Vertical 5/8 pair!
I did try an advertising blimp but the gear and certification made it unrealistic for hobby use but it is definitely feasable and used in commercial quarters. Its all been tried i reckon, i'll just have to knuckle down and weld up some mother brackets to lock two stem together, its starting to make a 60' boom yag look like childs play!!!!
