Running CB mobile - newbie query

Hi all,

I'm new to the FB group c/s 108fb267. I run a President George and am using Sirio 5/8 whip. Having recently passed my driving test I am interested in going mobile up some of the local hills but I am not too sure how best to hook the cb to a power supply. Previously I have attempted a 12V cigerete lighter connection for RX only but I want to TX. I have read that it is possible to connect to the fuse box outlet? Will it provide enough ampage protection?

Thanks guys,

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the FB group and to the forum emoticon

Straight from the battery for best results, particularly the earth, fuse the wire use the biggest you can feed through. And keep it as short as possible.

good luck emoticon

same as the other replies, but if you run power, keep the engine running, or use a spare battery or two. push starting maybe good for your calf muscles, but it ruins your street cred!!

Re: Running CB mobile - newbie query

hows it goin boss.my station is always mobile cause of the broadband powerline causing +10 of noise qrn at my qth so ive worked out a lot of mobile problems that homebase ops never encounter.as said before wire direct to the batt but a good tip is wire the red live to the batt but the the black ground keep as short as and connect to bare metal on the cars body(on a big unpainted bolt).this reduces engine noise on ssb/am and if your radios got one, switch the noise blanker nb on.
many ops (even experienced ones)ive found often get terrible audio reports when combining using a linear amp with a magmount mobile whip..
this is due to the fact that the mag is kind of providing an artificial ground so any tuning/grounding issues which are present in your mobile are amplified by the linear and feed back as a nasty audio when transmitting on ssb.this is known as ground loop.as ever in radio grounding your equipment is key.if you can "body mount" your whip in the middle of your roof,it will out perform in every way to ,lets say a magmount on the boot.if you cant drill the roof then a gutter or boot lip mount will be better grounded as they bite into your cars metal.
