TVI problem

Have trouble again with TVI on next door but one to me, have renewed coax, earthed everything I can, now using horizontal aerial (beam) and still causing havoc! Have been round there and there tv`s (3 of them) all pick it up, they are all old sets and only one is on Digital (freeview) but they dont use that one much. I have looked into getting a filter for them to try but dont know whether to get a notch filter for 27 or one that covers all the bands, they are both the same price but thought the 27 one may work better as thats the freq thats causing the problems.
What do you think guys?
Cheers, Al

Re: TVI problem

hi Al.thought i give you a my 2 peneth as no one else has yet.i asuume your swr is as close as but anything reflected down the outer coax will destroy any cheap unfilterd tellys.an rf choke does as its called .placed before your beam.so look up the ugly balun on the net.get that beam away or higher.point it the other way.turn down the power, remember ERP with a beam is to the power ten so my 200 watts vertical is your 20 watts.try ferrites on the tvs.4 quid gotta be worth a go.2/3 turns of the power cable close to the set.deppending on how much you wanna be on air,try a decent tv in their place.if this helps, buy the neighbours a few.the,ll love ya too.
good luck lad.

Cheers Brent, have ferrites everywhere, tried beam up at nearly 50ft and still causing tvi with just 5 watts. Tried with the A99 tonight with 5 watts and still causing tvi. Think I`ll just give it up as a bad job unless I can think of something. Will give the ugly balun a go first though, not tried that.

Just reading my last post, funny what you put when things not going your way! No intention of giving up, will sort this problem sooner or later-hoping its sooner! Was talking to Gavin-163FB888 last night when it happened. Hes a nice chap to chat to, putting up a 4elli beam today so will boom in here even more. Hearing more and more FB calls everyday.

it could be something as silly as the neighbours coax or plugs not propperly installed, i would check all there coax and plugs before you buy expensive filters that might not work emoticon

I use a low pass filter Keith, just made an ugly balun (mines real ugly!) just when I`d finished it I realised I hadnt got a pl259 conector and shops were shut, will get one in the morning but cant test it till neighbours come back home on Tuesday I think so will let you know if that worked. There tv aerial and coax looks old, 2 of there tvs are not even on digital, the other one has freeview.

Nice one Brent, the ugly balun seems to be working! Phoned neighbour and tried it up to 100watts and no interference there end so seems to have cured the tvi problem.
Would have been lost without this forum and all the help from you guys so a big thanks to you all.

I'm pleased it works emoticon an ugly balun is an RF choke really. emoticon

And I have a spare for anyone who wants one. Its homemade by me emoticon and has about 9-10 turns which is about ideal for 11m.

Re: TVI problem

Not sure how many turns I put on mine, I read to use 18-21ft of coax so went for 21ft and it just works! I do need another one for the house but have enough coax and pipe to make another one but if anyone else is suffering as I was, I am sure they would be more than pleased with your offer Dave.
