arghhh.so this is where your post is.ive been looking for it to see how you went on mate.been looking in the anntenas section.what was i thinking? buzzin to hear youve had a win.i do a fair bit a reading up when i build or whatever and remember these being sweet.they also should help to bring down any loose SWR at the radio as the reflected power is dissipated in the windings.next is to hit em with a Kwatt.

Just noticed I have water in the coax now:-(
Can it be dried out or do I just replace the lot? Think I`ll just replace the lot and buy some proper tape this time.

Well, its been a few weeks now-and its back! I have a feeling its since I put a rotator on the beam, I just used house wiring as it needed to be 3 core, could that somehow be picking the signal up and radiating? Have took it off for now so will try it later when the neighbours get home. Even with 5 watts tv was a total wipeout. We`le get there in the end.

3 TV sets...Bet they use one of those horrendous TV amplifiers that pre amplify everything
These things are the cause of many many problems.
Do you have a filter on both ends of the rotator cable & on the electrical line into the rotator control? If the problem has returned since the rotator was put in place & went with the 1:1 (ugly balun)on the antenna, then for the cost of a couple of RF chokes, even if it's at Maplins prices, then it's got to be worth a try.
And yes the rotator cable could be radiating.

Just read this thread for the 1st time and thats exactly what I thought. You need to replace TV antenna's/coax every 5-7 years, most people never bother until something actually stops working. They use coax where the copper has gone black, TV Yagi's with half the elements fallen off, cheap TV's with no screening, and then they blame YOU because they can't watch fking Corrie or Eastenders. Really pisses me off.

One of my neighbours complained to me about TVI, went around and the coax had no plug on it and was sellotaped into the back of the TV, wtf?

Strange how your tvi went away and came back again, chances are it didn't go away, they just weren't watching telly while you were on the radio, but, you can take the rotator off and see if it is making a difference. What I would do is get them 3 new TV aerials decent coax and put one up for each TV, or at the very least put a new one up for the TV they watch the most.

It not your responsability to do it, but if it keeps the peace it can be well worth £40 or so if it means they stop complaining and you can still play radio. If you are going to try adding filters on their TV's then they need to go on the input to the Signal booster, thats where it will be most effective. Most will have a dial on them to alter the gain, turn this down to minimum then increase it slowly until you get a decent picture. Most people just crank these up full cos they think more gain is better, but its gonna amplify your signals aswell emoticon

Right then, took rotator down and tried at 5w, nothing -tried 100w and they get lines-but nowhere near as bad. I can go up to 40w with no sign of any interference so thats a big difference. I think I am now going to change the coax-again-for some decent stuff and see what that does. Maybe nothing but at least it will be me that benefits out of it if it does.
Its been a bit of a pain but its all learning.
Still have the tvi filter unused so will be taking that back for refund.
Cheers for the input guys, will add a bit more when I get better coax -mini8 (RG8X) stuff ok?

Re: TVI problem

I'm very lucky were I am, I'm very over looked on all sides were I am, I have houses & flats within 50 yards on all sides a small garden so earth radials are not possible, plus my shack by necessity is on the first floor & we have PME, so earthing is not possible from the shack either.
Yet despite this & the fact that it means that vertical polarisation is a essential, I manage to operate without any interference being caused & this despite having up to 500 watts to play with.
