Re: mics
lol
no such thing as a marshall mike. Loads of marshall amps around though!
what youre looking at is the heil mike (which i think is very overpriced for what it is) but i would use a SHURE SM58, a 31 band graphic equaliser (mono) and link that lot up to the audio input on the radio. You could go mad and bung a behringer compressor in there as well - even a dedicated delay/echo unit - they go so cheap on ebay.
seriously, you want a shure sm58 or 58beta, some balanced cable, a decent graphic equaliser and you could be having bbc quality audio.
NOTE
totally wasted on amateur radio rigs due to the narrower bandwidth - but still can make a noticeable difference.
you will also need another rig connected to a dummy load to check the transmitted audio.
BEWARE
there arr MANY hookey sm58's omn ebay - if you pay £60 for a new one, thats a good price, second hand, about 40-50 - cheaper - its going to be a ringer.
ask the seller if it feels heavy in his hand. if it doesnt, its a ringer.
ask him to unscrew the pop filter off the top - if theres a mike insert in there with a yellow bit of tape round it - its a ringer.

Outstanding Performance Time owned: 3 to 6 months
I purchased the last two that Musicians Friend had in stock. For FM & SBB use a really nice mic, especially wtih a good preamp. I use a Behringer Ultra-Voice Digital preamp & PreSonus EQ3B Parametric equalizer. I have other mics in my collection including high end studio (include several $1000+ tube mics), several Heils and an MC-60. For Ham use I have found no other mic that performs better. The freq response is very flat and the sound quite smooth and warm, with just enough presence to cut thru. The bargin mic of the century

Re: mics
I have done the A vs B&C mic tests on air. The Marshall 2003 and the V67 win, hands down over my Heil Goldline Pro. Feedback from on air contacts said I sounded like I was there in the room next to them talking. Ratings Heil Goldline Pro 5, Marshall MLX2003 9.5, and the Marshall MLX V67 10.0, ten being best and one worst. The Marshall's were purchased from Sam Ash. The 2003 cost me $149 w/shockmount. The V67 (gold screen/green body) $87 w/out shockmount. The V67 tries to emulate a vintage tube sound. There you have it. 73's
