hi, 5-7 amp should be enough for just the radio. 300watts on SSB would probably be drawing at least 15amps maybe more. i have a 20amp supply and i run a cobra and a 200watt SSB amp on it fine. i would think a 25 amp supply would do you, but its always better to have more amps as the supply wouldn't be working so hard. what amp are you getting? could find out what ampage it draws just to make sure

erm, this is from the e bag add,///

As new, still in box 300w Amp. This gives 150watts out on AM/FM. and 300watts out on SSB. This has only ever been used once! Has built in Pre amp. Relisted due to bad descriptopn last time. I have no way of testing this, as I do not have an antenna. But I am sure it is all OK. Any questions? Please ask.

On 08-Feb-08 at 10:01:08 GMT, seller added the following information:

I have found this to answer questions. This Amp is a re branded Zetagi unit.... Six way adjustable power output from this big amplifier, simply the best in its class. Really get into the DX with the very high output power, brilliant to use on the very popular 10m/11m (28Mhz/27Mhz) band, and can be used with success on the 21/24Mhz bands too. Has a great built-in pre-amp, and multi selectable output power switch, and again, this powerhouse amplifier is a very compact size, making it very easy to fit most cars. 300P 20-30 Mhz Amplifier Operates from 12V dc 6 Way output power switch Built in Pre-amp Input Power : 1-10watts AM/FM 1-20watts SSB Output power : 70-200 watts AM/FM, 140-300watts SSB Size: 180 x 160 x 70 mm Weight : 1.53Kg

300P same as zetagi i would think is drawing about 15-20amps, so if you wanted to run your radio and amp off the same PSU i would go for at least 25amp probably 30amp just so you have more than you need. or if cash is tight run the amp off a car battery and the radio off the PSU you have, just keep the battery topped up on charge when your not on the radio, ive just got hold of a 300P for the 4x4

you should be able to pick up a 25-30amp PSU for under £60 i would of thought, someone correct me there if i'm wrong. car battery will be fine anyways, as long as its on charge when not in use it should always be in tip top condition. i used one for a couple of years

buy a cheap split charger relay (12 quid on flea bay) and buy a leisure battery as used in caravans (45 squid), link that lot together for mobile. Its what i use in the van.

easy peasy job, can supply wiring diagrams / details if you need them

I'd go with the battery idea too.
A 30 amp power supply is some beast, and chances are it wouldn't be able to supply that current for long without overheating - this is something the manufacturers don't tell you.
