Re: Chat Room for OBNatics!
Rave, I provided a link (below) to a webpage that has DOZENS of really great Orlando video clips that can be downloaded. It contains the clips from Japanese KOH premiere and MANY OTHERS!
The site belongs to "Elflady" at Orlando Love and all she asks is that people JUST DOWNLOAD ONE VERSION of each clip so it doesn't put too much strain on the server! What a sweetie to provide so many great clips for us "Orli fans," que no?

Re: Chat Room for OBNatics!
OK, here are some of my thoughts about KOH (and Orlando too)! I think it was a good film, very spectacular and beautiful from a “cinematic” standpoint as is typical of Ridley Scott's films. Sadly, I thought it was way OVER-EDITED making it very ‘choppy’ and sometimes hard to follow, leaving too many ‘holes’ in the story/plotline and too many ‘loose ends’ that were really never tied up. Once again, it felt to me like the ‘main characters’ weren’t developed fully enough to give you a real perspective on WHY they behaved the way they did and what led them to take the actions they did. Personally, I think there should have been more scenes of events leading up to Balian’s wife’s suicide, what happened immediately after, and HOW all of this affected Balian. Events (and characters) “jumped around” too much, and it seemed like important “back story” was cut out in the producers’ attempt to shorten the film’s running time. IMO this resulted in too many inconsistencies and a lack of cohesiveness in the plot; in other words, sequences didn’t seem to “flow together” very well.
As for the acting: I thought it was good too in spite of the problems resulting from such “choppy” editing. Liam Neeson was excellent as always; and so was Jeremy Irons. I also liked David Thewlis as the Hospitalier, and the Syrian actor who played Saladin was perfect in that role. NOW we come to Orlando. (Sigh!) This certainly had to be his most DEMANDING role so far. Aside from problems I had with the film covered above, I probably would have to describe Orli’s performance as “inconsistent” in that there were SOME scenes where I thought he handled himself VERY well – and yet there were OTHERS where he seemed – well, too “unsure” of himself, and for lack of a better word, “inhibited.” I felt MOST of this tendency to “freeze up” happened in the FIRST HALF of the film BTW. It seemed to me that he got better (and more sure of himself) as the story unfolded, and that he was feeling more comfortable in his character’s "skin" during the second half of the movie.
I’ve read lots of reviews of KOH and it really has been a “mixed bag.” While it’s true that a lot of critics did “bash” Orli in this film, there have also been a few who praised him, like Leonard Maltin, a well-known film critic with “Entertainment Tonight.” This is what he said about Orlando in KOH:
quote: The youngest of the film’s key collaborators is 28-year-old Orlando Bloom, whose leap to overnight fame in The Lord of the Rings trilogy unwittingly set him on a course of costume drama that continued, to public acclaim, in Pirates of the Caribbean. Bloom embodies a nobility that belies his age, and carries the weight of his role here—as an “ordinary man” who becomes a leader—with aplomb and conviction.
Kingdom of Heaven may not have the stuff of greatness, but it’s bold and intelligent, two words one doesn’t get to use very often for blockbuster-style entertainment.
Judging an actor’s talent does seem to be pretty subjective, but a really EXCELLENT performance can usually be recognized by everyone. Personally, I’d love to see Orli “loosen up” more, just learn to relax and allow himself to “dive deep inside” the character he’s playing. (LOL – just “Feel the Force, Baby!") I think it will happen as he becomes less “self-conscious” when the cameras are on him. I thought he showed definite signs of improvement in this film, especially in the second half. I still believe he has talent that is developing and will be ‘tapped’ when he finds just the right role. That’s why I’m looking forward so much to Elisabethtown because this will be a totally DIFFERENT kind of film role for him and in a completely different kind of setting (modern day).
BTW – so far the “pre-screening buzz” has been REALLY POSITIVE for Elisabethtown (and for ORLANDO too!) As soon as I find some of the reviews I’ve read from people who’ve been to the early “test screenings,” I’ll post their comments here.

Re: Chat Room for OBNatics!
Thanx, Julie. I STILL have faith in Orli! LOL - guess I sound like one of those "die-hard" fans, no? But he's SUCH a sweetie!
Maybe I should follow your advice and start a thread for "Elisabethtown" reviews. For now, these are just reviews from people who have seen the "test screenings," but they're interesting anyway.
