Nine Ladies - Derbyshire UK

The Nine Ladies is a beautiful and historical site of interest. There are nine surviving stones in the circle, but excavations have shown that there were once at least ten and possibly eleven. The small "King Stone" lies forty metres from the circle and is clearly visible from it.

The site is a small but apparently complete early Bronze Age stone circle of nine stones, part of a complex of prehistoric circles and standing stones on Stanton Moor.

I have been to visit the Nine Ladies on a number of occasions and found the site to be very tranquil and I felt almost at home there. I guess for me the energy seemed to suit me, but for others it has been perhaps a little too tranquil.

However due to where the Nine Ladies are located on the backdrop of a quarry for Millstone Grit, it seems that some people would rather destory this historical area to weigh their pockets a bit more. Isn't greed awful! Anyways thats just my opinion.

Have a look on the internet and see what you think about what they are doing there, here's some more information from Wikipedia:-

The Nine Ladies is a strange place. It's an Early Bronze Age circle about 15m across, adjacent to other sacred sites on Stanton Moor. It consists of ten stones, one of which is horizontal and was below ground until droughts and erosion revealed it in the 1970s. The circle is very popular with visitors to Stanton Moor.

Brief Information about whats happened so far:-
In 1999 Stancliffe Stone Ltd submitted a planning application re-open two dormant quarries (Endcliffe and Lees Cross) on the wooded hillside beside Stanton Moor. The proposed quarry was only 200 m from Nine Ladies, on land owned by Haddon Hall estate and leased to stancliffe stone.
A local protest group SLAG (Stanton Lees Action Group) was set up to oppose the quarry. The group was joined by environmental protestors who set up a long-running and controversial protest camp and they built many tree houses which are hard to evict. They defied a court eviction order in February 2004, and continue to remain there.

Let me know what you think & if you have ever been to the Nine Ladies and how you felt whilst you were there :-)

Take care
