"The Beginning"
I've just finished the last edit of issue 2 of Strikeforce. It may go on line this weekend (or it may not). Issue 3 is written and queued for editing.
Issue 2 is back to 22 pages (you may or may not have noticed that issue 1 was 25 pages; issue 3 will probably be 24). I plotted the three issues as a single storyline, a graphic novel if I'm being pretentious about it (hence the subtitle, Strikeforce: The Beginning), and I let the breaks fall where they fitted rather than enforce an arbitrary 22-page chapter.
Issue 2 may therefore suffer from "middle book" syndrome: where the middle book of a trilogy drags a bit because it's just padding before the big climax. There's not much action but I've tried to round out the main characters somewhat and hopefully keep things interesting. Don't worry, issue 3 has a BIG fight and lots of smashing things.
Indcidentally, I seem to have unconsciously followed the three-act structure with this story. At least, I think I have. I'll leave it to the literary experts among you to decide after you read all three parts.
Hmm. There's no real point to this post. I'm just filling time while waiting for my co-plotters to come round and get on with Strikeforce issue 810.
Issue 2 preview (cue dramatic music):
KADNEZ: "They're under-powered, under-trained, and none of them had worked together before yesterday."
. . .
AVATAR: "I don't need a medical check. I'm a demon, you stupid machine."
COMPUTER: "Information: The Council of Science has determined that demons do not exist."
. . .
SCORPIO: "They sent us into the past with a shuttle and no pilot?"
NIGHTFLYER: "I usually make it up as I go along."
. . .
VOICE (from shuttle): "That only gives us fifteen minutes to save the Earth!"
. . .
NIGHTFLYER: "Do you do everything by the book?"
SCORPIO: "Don't you?"
. . .
COMPUTER: "Eight minutes fifteen seconds until the end of the world."
. . .
ELECTRON: "American military."
BLACK SWAN: "Chew 'em. I'm bullet proof."
ELECTRON: "I'm not!"
. . .
NIGHTFLYER: "Let's do it."
. . .
CAPTION: "Three hundred and sixty three years in the past, I will betray my core programming."
(More dramatic music...)

You can't boast about having an issue ready then not publish it you fiend!
Think of the loyal readership whose hopes you have raised and dashed in just two sentences.

Re: "The Beginning"
I think being a fiend is part of an Editor-in-chief's job description!
But to show I am also a generous Editor-in-chief, I hope you'll appreciate a certain intuitive super-speedster getting all the best lines in...

Re: "The Beginning"
Well, I kinda liked the preview.
By the way, has the "The Council of Science" determined whether or not "fiends" exist?

But not the only best lines!
That was well worth taking on the forces of the diabolical Editor-In-Chief for.

There was, until *someone* got fed up with Chi-Yun (who I'm convinced will reappear any day now...)

Re: "The Beginning"
I notice this version of Avatar (can you have an original from the future?) seems much friendlier than the one who appears in Issue 31 of the main series.
Wonder why?
And I must confess I'm all for Chi-Yun's return. (Though considering some of the scrapes the team seem to get into e.g. Sarah getting shot, perhaps Wane's healing skills would be more useful).
As for super speedsters getting all the best lines, I'm quite sure Nightflyer's excessive combination of mobility and overconfidence will soon place him in situation which shuts him up, one way or another...
Anyway, my fave character thus far in the new series is the computer!

Re: "The Beginning"
quote: They pass a case with another comic book. We can see part of the cover of this one, too. It shows a teenage girl with long, curly, blonde hair and a teenage boy with a black leather jacket and a cigarette in his mouth. They cower in a doorway while a huge werewolf menaces them. Due to the placement of the panel borders (or possibly the figures of SCORPIO and ELECTRON, or their speech-bubbles, blocking our view), we can't see the title of the comic.
9. SCORPIO:
What about that one?
10. ELECTRON:
No—
Panel 6
They walk away from that exhibit, too.
11. ELECTRON:
—That one really is fiction.
I like it!
