Debonair(Working title)
This is a story I wrote, by me.
Debonair(Working title)
It kinda ends all of a sudden so....
Scroll down please^^
In some places...most places, light overcomes darkness.
But there are places where that... well... doesn’t apply.
In this story we will be visiting such a place.
Awakening
Debonair awoke to the stench of burning charcoal, which he did every morning. He stretched his arms and sat up on his bed. Wonder how long I’ve been asleep. He thought.
He got up and looked through his small window, it was a warm summer morning, he saw birds circling the "house" he was on. It was his home. The Goliath it was called.
The Goliath was a coal powered land vehicle that towers over trees. A slow moving vehicle its top speed of two hundred kilometers per day, fast for how big it is. At sixteen stories high, twenty-five feet wide, and four hundred feet long it was known by many across the land. It had archers posted on the roof, and sides of it and horses could easily flow in and out of the entrances constructed at the bottom. Spewing out smoke at all times, it is fairly easy to see from even kilometers away. It was covered by wood, but with a metal frame holding it together it is near impossible to destroy.
Debonair was a young boy of fourteen and was quick with a blade, but preferably used a rapier over normal swords and such. He was allowed on The Goliath when he was eight, when he was found by a Pegasus Knight and brought back to the Goliath. He didn’t remember any of his past so he was taken as one of their own. He was blessed with yellow eyes, a highly uncommon trait passed only to a race known as the wingedfolk, but they are known only as a legend. His blonde hair went well over his eyes and he had a slim face.
He stood gazing at the birds until one was struck with a stone big as a fist. Up on the higher deck were Kaz and Argulet roaring with laughter, preparing to throw some more stones.
Kaz and Argulet were brothers born two years apart, who had trickery and pranks done on many people and things.
Kaz, the younger fifteen-year-old boy was the scrawny one and made many smart mouth comments, and kept himself well-groomed. He had brown hair that barely touched the bottom of his ears and green eyes filled with intellect that he refused to use.
Argulet was the seventeen-year-old unintelligent brute who followed his little brother around, and had a rough face from battles but still had a good sense of humor. Although he was a little slow in the head, he was strong and towered over Kaz and Debonair by at least a foot. He had a broad face and short brown hair which was important in battle, his hard green eyes would make you think of him as a tactician who calls the shots, but he just does what his brother tells him to.
"Looks who has finally woken up!" yelled Argulet.
Kaz came running with a handful of stones from the inner part of the deck and hit his stomach on the bar and nearly tipped over and fell off, but regained his balance and said, "Its about time, two days of beauty sleep is too much for anyone."
Debonair laughed sarcastically. "Well hurry up and get up!" yelled Argulet.
"We’re supposed to brief you on our next plan of attack!" yelled Kaz.
Debonair went and opened his chest of belonging, treasures, weapons, and such. He took out his greaves, some leather gloves, a jerkin, his rapier, and some pants. He put his jerkin and pants on, then his gloves, buckled his rapier to his waist, and put his greaves back in his chest. He eyed some bread that was in it and took that too.
He walked outside to see people standing in the corridor talking and such, he knew most of the people by name, and some by face. He walked through them stopping to talk with others, and be teased by few about his actions two nights ago.
***
Two nights ago The Goliath was once again about to engage in battle with a pack of Darklings.
Darklings are a race of animals that are covered in black and are fairly ugly, they look like the cross of a human, and a dog.
Some troops were still getting ready to fight them and some were already flowing out of The Goliath to meet the Darklings head on. Debonair was still getting ready, he had all his mail on, he just needed to get his leather chest plate on and find his rapier. He looked for nearly fifteen minutes until he found it under his mattress. Who put it there. He thought to himself.
He then strapped the on his leather chest plate and buckled his rapier to his side. He recited a good luck charm taught to him by his friend Falken and ran out of his room.
He decided to go up on the deck and use a rope to slide down to the battle field. So up he climbed four stories. When he got to the top he could already see the Darkling withering away. I must be part of this battle, I won’t miss out like last time. He thought to himself.
He grabbed one of the ropes on the deck tied it to the railing, threw it down and saw it almost touched the ground. Perfect.
He grabbed the rope put his legs over the railing one by one and started to slide down. The air rushed over his face giving his a pleasant feeling, after going down about ten stories the rope untied and he started to fall. About fifteen feet before hitting the ground he saw the same Pegasus Knight that saved him four years ago rushing down to catch him. Thump.
He hit the ground but if the Pegasus wasn’t there to heal him he would’ve died for sure.

Debonair walked up four stories, he was on the upper deck. There he saw Argulet was dangling Kaz over the edge of The Goliath, "Throw rocks at the birds Argulet! Not me!" Yelled Kaz.
It wasn’t the fact that Argulet would do whatever his brother said that amazed him, it was how these two siblings could entertain each other so long by throwing rocks at birds.
"You guys decided to start throwing each other at the birds!?" Yelled Debonair from across the deck of The Goliath.
"Huh?" Questioned Argulet while he turned around, once he saw Debonair he started to wave, now holding Kaz with one hand, Kaz once again began to yell, "Argulet! Pick me up this instant! What are you doing!"
"What? Oh sorry little brother" Argulet said as he pulled Kaz back up.
"That’s okay." said Kaz while he dusted himself off, "Just don’t do it again."
"So, did you two need me?" Inquired Debonair.
"Did we need you?" said Kaz in a sarcastic voice, "Of course not! Just wanted to talk to you about that little trick you played last night, how did you make that fall look so real!?" Asked Kaz laughing.
"Your very funny" Said Debonair sarcastically
"That Pegasus Knight, Falken must be getting tired of saving you over and over again." Said Kaz, while Argulet went back to throwing stones at birds.
"I don’t think he minds" Replied Debonair.
"Hmm, well that’s besides the point, I’m supposed to tell you about the next pack of Darklings" Explained Kaz, "It’s a very small pack, said to only be twenty in size, Samuel spotted it on the look out yesterday"
"When will they be in range?" asked Debonair as he gripped the rail.
"A day and a half give or take, we shouldn’t have any problems" Kaz answered.
"Very well. Thanks Kaz, I’m off to get something to eat, two days without food won’t do anyone good" Debonair said, as he patted Kaz on the back and left to the banquet room.
He had to take the pulley system down to the tenth level. Then walked through some corridors and got to the banquet room.
There were three Banquet rooms situated on the Goliath, one on the third, sixth, and tenth level. All looked the same, nothing spectacular. Burgundy walls with granite tile and rows of wooden tables. After eating two bowls of oatmeal and three glasses of orange juice he felt his energy coming back to him. While walking back to his he met up with Falken.
"Oh Falken, I’ve been meaning to thank you for helping me in that disorder the other night" Debonair said
"Ah, well it wasn’t me who went for you, my Pegasus Syth saw you and forced me to go for you, I had no idea what was going on until we were not but just feet away from you."
"Well I thank Syth then" Debonair said
"I’m sure she’ll be happy" Laughed Falken "Well, I’m off, I’ll see you later, oh and were you briefed about the Darklings already?"
"Yes" Debonair replied
"Oh, very good" Falken said, then strode off.
A new set off Darklings so soon, they must off dispatched from the group that attacked us the other night. He decided to walk up three levels to his room, because of his newfound energy. He ran up the stairs to the thirteenth level and ran to his room, he felt much better. He wondered what he should do, and then decided to go to the training room where he was sure he could trade blades with someone. He took the pulley down to the first level and opened the door to the training room.
A NEWFOUND SKILL
Debonair was immediately asked by a servant what he would like to train in.
"I would like to train with my rapier today" He responded.
"Did you bring your own sword?" Asked the servant.
"No"
The servant found Debonair an old rapier and handed it to him
"I assume you know your way to the blade practice room?"
"Of course" Replied Debonair.
Debonair walked from the small arena room to the hand to hand training room, and through another door to the blade practice room. He looked around for someone to practice with. Most were veterans in using a sword. Then he saw a friend of his who was at about his skill level.
